New Delhi [India], May 18 (ANI): Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, 2022 to unify all the three municipal corporations of Delhi-- North Delhi Municipal Corporation, South Delhi Municipal Corporation, and East Delhi Municipal Corporation-- into one entity will come into force on May 22.

New Delhi Mar 28 PTI Three fresh cases of dengue have been reported in the last one week in Delhi taking the tally to 55 according to a civic report released on MondayTill March 19 this year 52 cases of dengue were recorded in the cityThree fresh cases have been reported in the last one week it saidAccording to the civic report on vector-borne diseases at least 55 dengue cases have been recorded this yearThe city reported 23 cases in January 16 in February and 16 this month till March 26For the January 1-March 26 period six cases each were recorded last year and in 2020 and 2019 while ten cases were logged in 2018 and twelve in 2017 the report statedCases of vector-borne diseases are usually reported between July and November but the period may stretch till mid-DecemberLast year 9613 dengue cases the highest number of cases of the vector-borne disease was recorded in Delhi in a year since 2015 while 23 deaths were also reportedMeanwhile South Delhi Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti has issued advisory on prevention and control of vector-borne diseases in Delhi the covic body said in a statementThe SDMC is the nodal agency for control of vector-borne diseases in the cityThe advisory has been sent to all offices of central state governments CPWD PWD DDA Delhi Police Delhi Jal Board and DMRCRegistrars of all universities and deemed universities in Delhi all associations of professionals and all associations of traders and Chambers of Commerce have also been sent the advisory it saidBharti called for prevention of mosquito-breeding at source and made it clear that reduction in breeding is the only effective tool for prevention and control of these diseasesThe municipal commissioner asked the heads of various agencies including DMRC DJB DDA Delhi Police PWD CPWD to nominate nodal officers to ensure preventive measuresThe commissioner said this year there is a need to concentrate more on educational institutions colleges and schools as they were closed due to COVID-19 crisis and now they are reopeningThe designated nodal officer of these institutions must ensure that there is no artificial water collection in open grounds roofs of buildings flower pots etc Also overhead tanks should be emptied covered and locked Unused vehicles like school or college buses should be covered and parked in covered spaces to prevent water collection inside he saidBharti also requested heads of all agencies to ensure that overhead and other water tanks or containers are kept properly covered with lid and overflow pipe or air vent are covered with a wire mesh Collection of stagnant water should not be allowed inside or around office premises and if the same does take place a little quantity of kerosene or petrol or diesel may be put over it Unused broken bottles plastic cups pots and tyres etc that can hold water should not be left in the open he said He also asked heads of offices to nominate their nodal officers to ensure compliance of advisory and proper prevention and control of diseases by eliminating breeding of mosquitoes across their complex The commissioner also mentioned that the Delhi municipal corporation body through laws of 1975 on malaria and other vector-borne diseases provides for an action on failure to take specified prevented measures and the failure is punishable On detection of repeated breeding besides legal notice challan police complaint may be lodged under section 269 of the Indian Penal Code the commissioner was quoted as saying in the statement Bharti called upon RWAs market association and the general public to take preventive measures failing which the outbreak of dengue and chikungunya may become uncontrollableIn the years prior to 2021 the total dengue cases reported were -- 4431 2016 4726 2017 2798 2018 2036 2019 and 1072 2020 according to the reportIn 2015 the city had witnessed a massive outbreak of dengue when the number of dengue cases reported has crossed 10600 in October itself making it the worst outbreak of the vector-borne disease in the national capital since 1996The number of dengue fatalities logged in 2021 was the highest in the national capital since 2016 when the officially reported death count was 10Delhi had recorded two deaths due to dengue in 2019 four in 2018 and 10 each in 2017 and 2016The civic report released on Monday also stated that five cases of malaria and eight cases of chikungunya have been reported so far this year in Delhi PTI KND TDS TDS
New Delhi Feb 22 PTI Unmanned barricades on roads serve no purpose and cause harassment to public the Delhi High Court said on Tuesday and asked Delhi Police to submit the protocol followed by it for placing barricades in the cityThe high court took suo motu cognisance of a letter written to the Prime Minister which was in turn sent to the Delhi High Court for taking action against placement of unmanned barricades on several roads in south Delhi areaThe issue raised by Om Prakash Goel who wrote the letter requires consideration since these unmanned barricades on roads prima facie serve no purpose and indeed cause inconvenience and harassment to public at large Such barricades also have been used to set up kiosks and for parking vehicles said a bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet SinghThe court issued notices to the Commissioner of Delhi Police Delhi government the Centre through the Ministry of Home Affairs and South Delhi Municipal Corporation through its Commissioner and listed the matter for further hearing on April 13The respondents authorities shall file their respective status reports before the next date of hearing Delhi Police shall place on record the protocol that they follow in relation to setting up of barricades in the city if any the bench saidA PIL was registered by the court while taking cognisance of the December 10 2021 letter by Goel who claims to be the President of Delhi Pradeshik Aggarwal Sammelan to the Prime Minister which has in turn been sent to the courtHe raised grievances relating to setting up of unmanned barricades in Kalkaji and CR Park police station areas in south Delhi and circulated several media reports on the issueHis grievance is that these barricades serve no purpose and lead to blockades of free flow of traffic causing misery and harassment to vehicle owners and general public and leading to long traffic jams and hold ups PTI SKV SA
New Delhi Jan 18 PTI The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought the stand of the Delhi government and other authorities on a petition seeking the removal of stray cows and bulls from roads and highways to prevent accidentsJustice V Kameswar Rao issued notice to the Delhi government Deputy Commissioner Traffic and Deputy Commissioner of South Delhi Municipal Corporation on the petition by Satish Sharma a lawyer who claimed to have suffered injuries after stray cows and bulls started quarrelling on the roadIn the petition the lawyer said that there are several stray cows and bulls wandering freely on the roads after being abandoned by their owners and despite several complaints to the concerned authorities the animals are yet to be removedOn December 15 2021 the petitioner was going to his home over his bike suddenly a flock of stray cow and bulls started quarrelling over the road By the quarrel of flock of stray cow and bulls the petitioner had sustained the injuries over his palm wrist knee and ankle Immediately the petitioner fall down over the road and anyhow the passer bye had saved him the petition saidIn these kinds of incidents and circumstances there can be grave possibilities of the road accident With the grace of God the life of the petitioner has been saved in two incidents Although the authorities and officials failed to perform their lawful duties and obligations it addedThe petition contended that it is the duty of the authorities to prevent the gathering of cows and bulls on the roads and their inaction is illegal wrong and uncalled for PTI ADS RKS RKS
