Kolkata Apr 20 PTI West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for politicising Bengal Global Business Summit and asked her to improve the law and order situation in the state before seeking investments He said Banerjees statements made at the inauguration programme of the business summit and aimed at the Centre was baseless Majumdars criticism followed Banerjees comment at a gathering of industry tycoons at the inaugural day of Bengal Global Business Summit where she urged Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar who was present at the occasion to ensure that industrialists are not disturbed by some agencies and to raise the issue at the next governors conference Though the chief minister did not name any central agency she made it obvious that her apparent dig was in response to recent income tax raids and Enforcement Directorate actions against a number of top firms Her comment had drawn applause from a section of the industrialists present at the business summit It is distresing to see our chief minister using the platform of the business summit to criticise the Centre and politicise the entire event It is not a platform to make such a statement and the one made by her was baseless Had the Centre harassed the industrialists they would not have invested in various parts of the country Majumdar said Hitting out at the TMC government he said Until and unless the law and order situation improves in the state investors will not feel safe to invest in Bengal The state government should create an atmosphere where everybody can invest without any fear of syndicates Taking a dig at several TMC leaders facing CBI and Enforcement Directorate probe in the state he said The chief minister is trying to find an excuse to justify the summoning of corrupt TMC leaders by the CBI Describing the situation in the state as lawless the senior BJP leader said the state government should first improve the law and order situation in Bengal Echoing Majumdar CPIM central committee member Sujan Chakraborty said Banerjees comments were aimed at justifying the failures of her government in bringing in investments into the state Everybody is well aware of the lack of industries in the state The chief ministers comment is aimed at giving an excuse in case promises made at the business summit do not materialise Also was she trying to give an excuse about her party leaders being summoned by CBI in criminal cases he asked State Congress president Adhir Chowdhury said such statements in front of business tycoons only reflected that the governor and the chief minister were not on the same page It was not a platform to make such statements he added The ruling TMC replied to the opposition criticism by saying Banerjee had dared to speak the truth There is a reign of fear across the country Even big industrialists are afraid to speak up Mamata Banerjee has dared to speak the truth There are instances where industrialists have said they are afraid to speak out on various occasions TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh said PTI PNT KK KK KK

Kolkata March 25 PTI Opposition parties on Friday welcomed the high court order for CBI investigation into the violence that claimed eight lives in Bengals Birbhum district earlier this week alleging that the state police acting on the behest of the TMC government was trying to hush up the matterThe ruling TMC cautious in its response said all cooperation would be extended to the CBIThe Calcutta High Court on Friday ordered a CBI investigation into Birbhum violence stating that the decision was taken in the interest of justiceThe court directed an SIT formed by the Bengal government to hand over all probe-related papers and the accused persons arrested by it to the central agencyWe welcome the courts decision Only a CBI probe can bring out the truth as the police acting as agents of the ruling party were trying to suppress the matter state BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar saidEchoing him CPIM leader Sujan Chakraborty said his party was hopeful that the CBI would carry out a fair probeWe wanted a court-monitored CBI probe into the Birbhum incident The state government had been trying to shield the culprits he claimedThe ruling TMC however said the state government so far had been doing its bit to unravel the truthThe court has given an order and we will abide by it All cooperation will be extended to the CBI The state government had taken enough action to probe the matter so far Several arrests have also been made It is for the CBI to look into the case now TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh said PTI PNT RMS RMS

Kolkata Jan 29 PTI The West Bengal BJP on Saturday gave a call for Marichjhapi Abhijan as its members plan to visit the tiny island of Marichjhapi close to Sunderbans on January 31 to pay tribute to people who were allegedly killed in police action while trying to settle in the state having fled Bangladesh during the Liberation War BJP state spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya told reporters here that the backward caste cell of the party would undertake the march to Marichjhapi as it also seeks to remind the younger generation about the history of oppression on the displaced backward-caste Hindu Bengalis during the Jyoti Basu-led Left Front regime The CPIM claimed that the saffron camp was concocting history and no such incident took place Bhattacharya talking to reporters said The backward caste cell of the BJP will on January 31 visit Marichjhapi where an unknown number of migrant Hindus were on this day in 1979 killed by the police and many women gangraped The party would also take out rallies in various districts of the state on that day he said Asked if the programme was aimed at winning the trust of backward caste communities given that Matuas were on an agitation path due to the delay in Citizenship Amendment Act implementation Bhattacharya asserted that there was no hidden agenda Our stand on giving citizenship to refugee Hindus and security to Indian Muslims remains unchanged We only want to remind the present generation about the brutal murder of hundreds during the police action in Marichjhapi in 1979 History cannot be erased he said CPIM central committee member Sujan Chakraborty alleged that the BJP was attempting to distort history by flagging an issue which is nothing but a bunch of concocted lies They BJP leaders are trying to foment trouble by organising such rallies People of West Bengal will not fall prey to such efforts he added TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that the BJP was trying to win over backward castes by harping on an old issue PTI SUS RMS RMS
