Ahmedabad Mar 31 PTI The Congress in Gujarat on Thursday alleged that police entered the partys state headquarters in Paldi area here ahead of a protest against price rise planned by its womens wing Police carried out searches and took away an effigy of inflation that the protesters were going to burn it alleged Police today entered our premises and searched rooms baton-charged and behaved badly with women party workers I warn the BJP that it should stop this hooliganism Gujarat Congress president Jagdish Thakor said Party spokesperson Pawan Khera said the BJP was killing democracy in Gujarat It is the oppositions duty to highlight the problems faced by people and the Congress had announced countrywide protests against price rise The BJP government of Gujarat sent hundreds of policemen to our headquarters here to not allow the protest Khera claimed They entered the premises and searched the media room store room and the room of the office in-charge To take away the effigy of rising prices from the premises they entered the state headquarters of our party behaved badly with our women workers pushed them lathicharged them and took away the effigy Khera said Our workers are not going to be cowed down by such use of force Khera said The party will take proper legal action against the searches carried out in office premises without any documents Thakor said Local police officers did not comment on the issue PTI PD KRK KRK

Vadodara Mar 23 PTI A 23-year-old man brutally killed a 19-year-old collegian by stabbing her multiple times and chopping off her hand for rejecting his love in Vadodara city of Gujarat police said on Wednesday adding that the accused was arrested After attacking the victim identified as Trisha Solanki on Tuesday evening the accused Kalpesh Thakor dumped her body on the outskirts of the city police said Solankis body was found lying in an isolated area with several stab wounds and her right hand severed The accused Kalpesh Thakor was arrested on the charge of murder a police officer said Thakor had known the victim for the last four years and was harassing her repeatedly He had called her to meet him and he killed her using a sharp weapon His was one-sided love for the victim Additional Commissioner of Police Chirag Koradiya told reporters The victim was staying with her uncles family in Vadodara and preparing for a police recruitment exam After the brutal murder crime branch sleuths narrowed down on Thakor who was in the past reprimanded by the victims relatives for harassing her During the interrogation Thakor said he was angry with the victim as she was not reciprocating his love and becoming friends with someone else investigators said The accused had blackmailed Solanki to become his friend around three years ago but he was not in touch with her after she returned to Godhra police said in a release Thakor wanted to meet Solanki again after she returned from Godhra to Vadodara but she refused Enraged by the refusal he decided to kill her and forced her to meet him on Tuesday evening the release said He carried a sharp weapon and persuaded her to come to an isolated place where he hit her on her nape before stabbing her several times He then took off on her two-wheeler which he parked elsewhere before joining his friend on Tuesday night the crime branch said PTI KA NSK NSK

Ahmedabad Jan 21 PTI The Gujarat Congress on Friday accused the BJP-led state government of failing to manage the COVID-19 pandemic and hiding figures of casualties and testing in the state The opposition party demanded imposition of strict control measures such as closure of activities for five days till January 26 to break the chain of the COVID-19 tsunami that has struck Gujarat The Congress further demanded that the state government collect the real figures of casualties from villages hospitals and crematoriums and provide Rs 4 compensation to the kin of deceased persons Speaking at a press conference former Gujarat Congress president Siddharth Patel said the state government was taking the COVID-19 tsunami lightly If strict control is imposed by declaring a five-day closure including Saturday Sunday and on January 26 it may help break the chain of the COVID-19 spread he said However due to the BJP governments lack of willpower the citizens of Gujarat are suffering The BJP government has completely failed in managing the COVID-19 pandemic and is resorting to hiding death and testing figures Patel said State Congress president Jagdish Thakor said Peoples hope of getting proper health care treatment and other facilities during the global pandemic has been dashed The government has been taking efforts to hide the figures related to testing deaths infected people etc More than three lakh people have lost their lives to COVID-19 so far in Gujarat because of clumsy administration and criminal negligence of the state government he alleged Though over three lakh people in the state have lost their lives due to lack of healthcare facilities including hospital beds oxygen and medicines the BJP government has only given out the figure of around 10000 Thakor claimed The state government has admitted before the Supreme Court that out of 91810 applications for Rs 50000 government compensation to the kin of people who died of COVID-19 58840 applications have been accepted around 11000 are under process and 15000 pending he said This death figure was revealed only after repeated admonition by the Supreme Court in the face of the state governments reluctance to pay compensation to the families of the deceased the Congress leader said If the BJP government had been determined to compensate families of the deceased it could have collected the real figures at the village-level from gram sabhas and hospitals and crematoriums he added Meanwhile the ruling BJP rejected the oppositions claims terming it as a cheap publicity attempt The government and ruling party are working in sync to ensure that the public do not have to suffer due to the pandemic by strengthening the health care system and covering maximum eligible beneficiaries for vaccination BJP leader Rutvij Patel said Both the chief minister and the state president have stood firmly with the people during the COVID-19 crisis he said Members of the party have been working with the people to support them while the Congress is making allegations without facts for cheap publicity said Patel who is co-spokesperson of BJP Gujarat PTI KA PD ARU ARU
