Thane Sep 18 PTI Tarique Parveen an alleged aide of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim was arrested by Thane police on Friday in an extortion case where IPS officer Param Bir Singh is one of the accused Tarique Abdul Karim Merchanta alias Tarique Parveen 55 who was already in jail in another case was wanted in the case registered with the Thane Nagar police station here an official said The present FIR names over 20 persons including Singh who had been police commissioner of Mumbai and Thane and some other police officers It was filed on the complaint of builder Ketan Tanna who alleged that Singh and other officers extorted money from him by threatening to frame him up in false cases when Singh was Thane police commissioner Parveen accused in another extortion case was lodged in the Taloja jail A court in Mumbai on Friday ordered that he be handed over to Thane police Thane police produced him before a local court which remanded him in police custody till September 22 Singh has not been arrested in the case so far He was transferred from the post of Mumbai police commissioner in March in the aftermath of the Antilia bomb scare incident He later accused then Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh of corruption which led to the ministers eventual resignation PTI COR KRK KRK

Thane Sep 18 PTI Police have arrested a man from Ulhasnagar town in Maharashtras Thane district for allegedly raping his six-year-old niece on multiple occasions an official said on Saturday The 42-year-old accused was arrested on Friday the official of Hill Line police station said The accused lived in the neighbourhood of his nieces family The accused used to take her to his house on the pretext of playing with her However he would sexually assault her there A couple of days back the girls elder brother spotted the accused indulging in sexual acts with her The boy reported the matter to his parents who approached the police and lodged a complaint against the man he said A medical test was conducted on the girl which confirmed that she had been raped police said After that the accused was arrested and booked under IPC section 376 rape and also under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences POCSO Act He was produced before a local court which remanded him in police custody for four days they said PTI COR NP NP

Thane Sep 18 PTI Police have raided a bar in Maharashtras Thane district and arrested 10 waitresses and 21 others for allegedly violating the coronavirus prevention guidelines and indulging in obscenity an official said on Saturday The action was taken by the Kalyan crime branch unit-III on Thursday night Thane police spokesperson Jaimala Wasave said Based on a tip-off the crime branch team raided the bar located on Kalyan-Manpada road and found several members of the bar staff and customers not wearing masks and also flouting the social distancing norm she said The police also found that the women who were serving food and drinks to the customers at the bar were improperly dressed and indulged in obscene acts the official said Apart from 10 waitresses 19 customers and two employees of the bar were arrested and various equipment including a music amplifier collectively worth Rs 24300 was seized police said An offence under Indian Penal Code sections 294 obscene acts and songs 188 disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant and 269 270 negligent malignant acts likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life was registered against the accused They were also booked under provisions of the Epidemic Diseases Act and the Disaster Management Act at Manpada police station PTI COR NP NP
