Kohima Apr 22 PTI The Centres interlocutor for Naga peace talks A K Mishra Friday met the principal negotiator of NSCNIM Thuingaleng Muivah at Chumoukedima police complex here Friday This was the second meeting between Mishra and the octogenarian Muivah who was accompanied by about 11 senior NSCNIM leaders this week No detail about the meeting was shared with the media but a senior fucntionary of the outfit told PTI that there will be another round of talks between Mishra and a larger number of NSCNIM leaders again on Saturday Mishra who arrived in Nagaland on Monday for his second visit to the state since assuming office in September last year held an interaction with Naga National Political Groups NNPG a body of eight Naga organisations on Thursday The Centre has been holding separate talks with the NSCNIM since 1997 and the NNPG from 2017 It signed the Framework Agreement with NSCNIM on August 3 2015 and an Agreed Position with NNPG on November 17 2017 However no final solution to the vexed issue has been arrived at with NSCNIM sticking to its demand for a separate flag and constitution for the Nagas Mishra had met Muivah on Tuesday at Camp Hebron the NSCNIM headquarters near Dimapur Before leaving the state he will meet the state governments core committee on Naga political issue headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and comprising Naga civil societies officials said Meanwhile the Nagaland Gaon Burah Federation NGBF an apex body of village chieftains have appealed for a solution to the protracted issue before the state election due early next year The appeal was made during the 30th general session of NGBF held at Phek Town on Thursday The body also resolved that if the situation demanded the NGBF would take up democratic agitations PTI NBS KK KK KK

ED attaches assets of 3 NSCN-IM members in money-laundering case

New Delhi Dec 17 PTI The Enforcement Directorate has attached assets worth Rs 765 crore belonging to three members of Naga insurgent group NSCN-IM in connection with a money-laundering investigation against them linked to charges of alleged extortionThe attached properties belong to Alemla Jamir alias Mary Shimrang alias Atula Tongar P H Shimrang alias James Jamir and Massasosang Ao and some other members of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland IssacMuivah the probe agency said in a statementNSCN-IM is a Naga separatist and insurgent organisation and Thuingaleng Muivah is its general secretary It is currently engaged in peace talks with the Union governmentFunds parked in 17 bank accounts three fixed deposits and a residential property bought by Alemla Jamir in her name at Mohammadpur in R K Puram area of Delhi have been attached as part of a provisional order issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act PMLA the Enforcement Directorate ED saidAlemla Jamir is the wife of self-styled ex-army chief of NSCN-IM Phunthing ShimrangWhile she and her brother-in-law Massasosang Ao are currently lodged in Delhis Tihar jail P H Shimrang is absconding the ED saidIt said Alemla Jamir her husband Ao and other NSCN-IM members had created a network for terrorising businessmen and disrupting their operations with an intent to collect extortionillegal tax money from them Alemla Jamir had created false identities in the names of Mary Shimrang and Atula Tonger to obtain multiple PAN cards passports etcNumerous bank accounts were opened in the name of Alemla Jamir Mary Shimrang and Atula Tonger her relatives and entities Those and were being operated by Jamir and her associates for collecting layering and laundering of proceeds of crime received through extortion or illegal taxation it said The ED claimed the extorted money was used by Jamir and her associates to give loans to business entities and an exorbitant rate of interest was charged by them to continuously grow the illegal funds accumulated by them PTI NES NSD

Centre NSCNIM resume peace talks after 2 years

Kohima Sep 20 PTI Talks between the Centre and the NSCNIM to find out a solution to the vexed Naga issue resumed on Monday around two years after the deliberations stopped a leader of the outfit saidThe new interlocutor AK Mishra held talks with NSCNIM chief negotiator Thuingaleng Muivah at Dimapur in NagalandMishra replaced previous interlocutor R N Ravi who was also the governor of Nagaland till a few days agoWe re-affirmed the Framework Agreement in letter and spirit That was the basic topic in todays meeting NSCNIM leader R Raising told journalists after the closed-door meetingNo comment was available from the government side on resumption of the peace talksThe central government and the NSCNIM signed the Framework Agreement in 2015 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra ModiThe framework agreement came after over 80 rounds of negotiations spanning 18 years with the first breakthrough in 1997 when the ceasefire agreement was sealed after decades of insurgency in Nagaland which started soon after Independence in 1947The negotiations between the NSCNIM and the Centre had stopped following the formers refusal to hold deliberations with Ravi after the October 31 2019 talks in DimapurAfter we parted the government of India invited us to resume the talks A directive from the prime minister was sent that Mishra will be the representative of the central government to hold talks with the NSCN Raising saidSources said Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is likely to talk to NSCNIM leaders on TuesdayOn this Raising said We have never had talks with political leaders But we have to talk to political leaders if they are assigned by the central governmentThere has been not much progress in the peace talks after the Centre in 2019 rejected the outfits demand for a separate flag and a constitution for the NagasRaising said an honourable solution to the seven-decades-old problem is not possible without a Naga flag and a constitutionThe success of the peace talks would depend on the sincerity and commitment of both parties he saidMeanwhile sources said Mishra is also likely to meet the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups NNPGs which has also signed the Agreed Position with the Centre in November 2017The union government has been holding two separate parleys with the Naga negotiators NSCNIM since 1997 and the NNPGs comprising seven groups since 2017 PTI NBS NN NN
