171 MW power saved by Delhiites on Earth Hour

New Delhi Mar 26 PTI Around 171 MW of power was saved by Delhiites who joined the Earth Hour by switching off their non-essential lighting fixtures and other electrical appliances for an hour from 830 pm on SaturdaySeveral historic and iconic buildings in the national capital including the Humayuns tomb and the Rashtrapati Bhawan were dimly lit marking the Earth HourDiscom officials said about 171 MW of power was saved during the Earth Hour from 830 pm to 930 pmThe power discom BSES serving over 46 lakh consumers in Delhi saved 135 MW of powerTata Power-DDL supplying power in the north and north-west Delhi said its consumers managed to save 10 MW electricity during the Earth HourThe consumers were sensitised through Whatsapp messages and social media pages to make Earth Hour a success RWA and IWAs were also roped in to mobilise suport said a TPDDL spokespersonEarth Hour is one of the largest global grassroots campaigns for raising awareness on climate change issues supported by the World Wildlife FundThe event creates awareness about conservation of the natural resources and draws attention to the fragile condition of planet earthThe theme of this years Earth Hour is Shape Our Future for people from all around the globe to stand together to call for a safer fairer and more sustainable future for everyone PTI VIT NSD NSD

Delhi transport minister releases Residential EV Charging Handbook

New Delhi Feb 28 PTI Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Monday released the Residential EV Charging Handbook which will help Delhiites to get step-by-step guidelines to install charging points for electric vehicles on their premises according to an official statementThe initiative will increase affordability and access of EV chargers to common citizens and make the installation process hassle-freeThe statement said with the release of the handbook Delhi becomes the first state in India to make residential societies and resident welfare associations RWAs an integral part of its EV missionGahlot along with Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi DDC Vice-Chairperson Jasmine Shah also inaugurated an EV-charging station under the single-window facility at RWA Vasant KunjThe minister said the guidebook will ensure that the citizens are well informed about the charging infrastructure installation and the benefits being provided by the governmentThrough our comprehensive EV policy we are not only providing demand incentives such as purchase subsidies and interest subventions but we have also ensured incentives for EV infrastructure development Gahlot was quoted as saying in the statementThe guidebook addresses the common concerns of the RWAs like space planning not limiting to the present EVs choosing the right mix of EV chargers power load management etcUnder the Switch Delhi campaign the government has developed a single-window facility for the citizens to apply for the installation of EV-charging points and avail the subsidy from the comfort of their homes without any hassle the statement saidWith the subsidy one can buy a 33-KW LEVAC charger for less than Rs 2500 compared to the existing market price of the charger of over Rs 8500 it addedAs part of the initiative the three DISCOMs -- BRPL BYPL and TPDDL -- have already empanelled more than 10 EV charger vendors which will be providing trusted and certified chargers to the citizens in accordance with the standards stipulated by the governmentOne can submit a request for EV charging point installation in less than five minutes along with an EV charging connection if required through the respective DISCOMs Switch Delhi web pageThe government has mandated an electricity rate of Rs 45 per unit for all such EV connections which is among the lowest in the country the statement saidUnder the initiative more than 100 requests have already been received by the three DISCOMs and installation of 19 EV charging points have already been completed comprising both private and semi-public usages it addedThe Delhi government had launched a comprehensive EV policy on August 7 2020 with a vision to promote faster adoption of electric vehicles in the city and to make Delhi the EV capital of IndiaShah said the release of the guidebook is an important step to facilitate this activity and Delhi has become the first state in the country to make residential societies and RWAs an integral part of its EV mission PTI AKM RC

New Delhi Dec 20 PTI With electric vehicle adoption picking up pace in Delhi power discom TPDDL said it has boosted charging infrastructure installing over 1400 chargers across the city and neighbouring towns in the national capital region The Tata Power Delhi Distribution TPDDL is also working with the North Delhi Municipal Corporation for installing 50 EV chargers at parking slots and market places under jursidction of the civic body in coming four-five months said TPDDL chief executive officer Ganesh Srinivasan We have already installed around 50 EV public chargers 9 in TPDDL area of operations and 1400 home chargers in NCR We are also looking to identify 50 top resident welfare associationsRWAs in our licensed area for installing 2-3 two charging stations per RWA Srinivasan said The discom supplying power to north and northwest Delhi areas has been working on developing both public and private EV charging infrastructure For public EV charging TPDDL is offering its land in leasing model for deployment of chargers and battery swap stations he said Two battery swap stations at TPDDL Azadpur and Rohini RG-3 Grid have been deployed in collaboration with SUN Mobility in the land lease model the TPDDL CEO said Additionally TPDDL is working on OPEX operating expenses model where it installs EV chargers at public or private land Under the model installation operations and maintenance is done by TATA Power and lease amount is paid to the land owner in the form of actual unit consumption of charger he said Every charging station offers charging services to all segments of EV vehicles the only thing that differentiates them is the type of charging configuration The charging configuration is primarily deployed as per the nearby traffic movement and business potential Srinivasan said Charging station with battery swap offers quick services to two and three wheelers and e-rickshaws and ACDC chargers for two three and four wheeled vehicles he said Electric vehicles accounted for nine percent of the total vehicle sales in Delhi during September-November six times higher than the national average the city government recently said The sale of electric vehicles surpassed CNG and diesel vehicles in Delhi in the last quarter it added PTI VIT AQS AQS

New Delhi Sep 21 PTI The Delhi High Court Tuesday sought replies from the Centre Delhi government and Tata Power on a plea seeking electricity connection for nearly 800 Hindu migrants from Pakistan and are living here for the past few yearsA bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Amit Bansal issued notices to the ministries of home affairs and defence Delhi government North Delhi Municipal Corporation NrDMC Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission DERC Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd TPDDL and District Magistrate of North Delhi and asked them to file reply to the petitionThe court listed the matter for further hearing on October 22The petition sough electricity connection for 200 Hindu minority migrants families comprising of almost 800 people who are currently living in Delhi Jal Board Maidan in North Delhis Adarsh Nagar areaPetitioner Hariom who works for the welfare of minority migrants from Pakistan Bangladesh and Afghanistan in India said that in this case the migrants are from Pakistan mostly from Sindh and are living here without electricity for past few yearsMigrants who have come to India from Pakistan on account of their religious persecution believed that coming to India will give their kids a bright and safe future but their present existence without electricity in the slum has shattered all their dreams of meaningful existenceDuring the pandemic when all schools have gone online there is no electricity in the Jhuggis slums and future of their children is in dark said the plea filed through advocates Samiksha Mittal Akash Vajpai and Ayush SaxenaThe petitioner said he has approached various government authorities but could not succeed in getting electricity for migrants and some of them even applied to TPDDL which refused on the grounds that valid ownership proof of applied address was requiredThe plea claimed that most of the migrants are living on long term visa and they have Aadhaar card also with the same address on which they are currently living which consequently proved their occupancyHowever as per the discom Aadhaar can be used as an identity proof but not as a proof of occupancy of the premises it saidThe plea sought direction for providing electricity connection to the migrants on the basis of their Aadhaar card long term visa and passport under the DERC Supply Code and Performance Standards Regulations 2017 and to also include these documents as identity proof and Aadhaar card as proof of occupancy PTI SKV SA
