Patna Feb 21 PTI Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Monday asserted that caste based census being demanded by his party the JDU will benefit all sections of the society and he will convene an all-party meeting soon to discuss the holding of such an exercise in the state Caste census is one of the oldest demands of JDU an ally of the BJP and the government will seek a political consensus before taking up the exercise he said at his weekly public outreach programme Although all political parties in the state are united over the issue I want to discuss with them about the modalities of conducting this exercise There is no political angle to the demand It is completely a social concern A caste census will benefit all sections of the society Kumar said Speaking on the importance of the proposed census he said that it will enable the government to work for development of various sections of the society We will start it very soon The exercise will be foolproof and once it is completed the government will act on it accordingly We will hold headcounts in a proper manner so that no one is missed he said In August 2021 a delegation led by Kumar had called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded caste-wise enumeration of the population in the country during the 2021 census Leaders of all political parties which have members in the Bihar assembly were part of the 11-member delegation The long-pending demand for caste census was revived in July 2021 after the union government informed Lok Sabha that it will not enumerate population caste wise except those from the SCs and STs The Bihar Assembly had unanimously passed resolutions on February 18 2019 and February 27 2020 demanding caste enumeration of the population Both the resolutions were sent to the union ministry of home affairs and the Centre was requested to hold the enumeration during the 2021 census PTI PKD KK KK KK

These suggestions include creating a separate slow-moving lane, providing permits to them and ensuring the subsidy should not be released till the permanent driving licence is granted to e-rickshaw drivers.

Mumbai Dec 28 PTI A court here on Tuesday allowed the Maharashtra governments application seeking documents from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs MHA in connection with an alleged phone tapping caseAdditional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S B Bhajipale granted the plea The detailed order was not available yetThe BKC cyber police station here in March 2021 registered a case on a complaint by the State Intelligence Department SID against unidentified persons for allegedly tapping phones illegally and leaking confidential documents Senior IPS officer Rashmi Shukla had headed the SID during the relevant period But the FIR did not name herThe state government wrote to the MHA seeking some documents regarding the case but the latter declined stating that the demand was vague and untenable The Maharashtra government then moved the magistrates court seeking a direction to the MHA to hand over the documentsIn the court the Union government sought dismissal of the plea saying the state authorities had failed to specify which documents they wanted and from whomEarlier BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis had cited a letter purportedly written by Shukla to then Director General of Police about alleged corruption in police transfersThe letter had details of intercepted calls leading to an uproar with leaders of the ruling coalition alleging that Shukla tapped phones of political leaders and officials without authorization Shukla who is now with the Central Reserve Police Force CRPF claimed before the Bombay High Court in a related petition that the government had given permission for the interception of certain phone numbers to verify complaints of corruption in police transfers PTI AVI KRK KRK
