Mumbai Mar 23 PTI The rupee pared initial gains to settle 14 paise lower at 7632 provisional against the US dollar on Wednesday due to month-end dollar demand from importers and rising crude prices amid geopolitical uncertaintiesAt the interbank foreign exchange market the rupee opened strong at 7608 against the American currency but could not hold the momentum and entered negative territory during the sessionThe domestic unit finally settled at 7632 against the greenback down 14 paise from the previous closeOn Tuesday the rupee had settled flat at 7618 against the American currencyIndian rupee depreciated for the third day in a row following dollar demands from importers ahead of the month and financial year-end and rebound in crude oil prices said Dilip Parmar Research Analyst HDFC SecuritiesParmar further added that global financial markets have been searching for clear direction on the back of ongoing geopolitical uncertainties The US Feds hawkish bet has been supporting gain in the dollarThe dollar index which gauges the greenbacks strength against a basket of six currencies was trading 014 per cent higher at 9863Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures jumped 216 per cent to USD 11797 per barrelOn the domestic equity market front the 30-share Sensex ended 30448 points or 053 per cent lower at 5768482 while the broader NSE Nifty fell 6985 points or 04 per cent to 1724565Foreign institutional investors emerged as net buyers in the capital market on Tuesday as they purchased shares worth Rs 38448 crore according to stock exchange data PTI DRR DRR BAL BAL

Rupee falls by 16 paise to 7476 against US dollar

Mumbai Jan 25 PTI The rupee on Tuesday depreciated by 16 paise to close at 7476 provisional against the US dollar due to month-end dollar demand from oil importers and a stronger dollar in overseas markets Investors weak appetite for riskier assets also weighed on the rupee Moreover market participants are now eyeing the US Feds meeting outcome for further cues At the interbank foreign exchange market the local currency opened at 7460 against the greenback and witnessed an intra-day high of 7457 and a low of 7480 during the session The rupee finally settled at 7476 down by 16 paise over its previous close of 7460 This is the second straight session of loss for the local unit The rupee has declined by 33 paise against the American currency in two days The dollar index which gauges the greenbacks strength against a basket of six currencies was trading 022 per cent up at 9612 Rupee becomes the worst-performing currency among Asian currencies Even after a sharp rebound in domestic equities forex market traders were uncomfortable to take risk ahead of holiday and the Federal Open Market Committee FOMC meeting said Dilip Parmar Research Analyst HDFC Securities Brent crude futures the global oil benchmark rose 148 per cent to USD 8755 per barrel On the domestic equity market front the BSE Sensex ended 36664 points or 064 per cent higher at 5785815 while the broader NSE Nifty rose by 12885 points or 075 per cent to 1727795 Foreign institutional investors remained net sellers in the capital market on Monday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 375158 crore as per stock exchange data PTI DRR MR MR

Rupee slips 11 paise to 7372 against US dollar in early trade

Mumbai Sep 22 PTI The Indian rupee depreciated 11 paise to 7372 against the US dollar in opening trade on Wednesday tracking a strong greenback in the overseas market Forex traders said a positive trend in domestic equities and sustained foreign fund inflows supported the rupee but firm crude oil prices and broad strength in the US dollar index dragged the local unit down At the interbank foreign exchange the rupee opened at 7370 against the dollar then fell further to 7372 registering a decline of 11 paise from the last close In the previous session on Tuesday the rupee had settled at 7361 against the US dollar Meanwhile the dollar index which gauges the greenbacks strength against a basket of six currencies rose 008 per cent to 9327 Foreign institutional investors were net buyers in the capital market on Tuesday as they purchased shares worth Rs 104192 crore as per exchange data According to Anil Kumar Bhansali Head of Treasury Finrex Treasury Advisors fund flows into the market are good enough but getting absorbed by the RBI All are watching out for todays US Fed meeting with great interest Exporters will sell near to 7380 and importers will buy near to 7350 Bhansali noted The US Fed meeting outcome will be announced later in the day Forex traders are awaiting cues on taper timeline and US Feds new projections on interest rates On the domestic equity market front the 30-share index was trading 16486 points or 028 per cent higher at 5917013 Similarly the broader NSE Nifty was trading 4445 points or 025 per cent up at 1760645 Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures advanced 102 per cent to USD 7512 per barrel PTI DRR ANS ANS
