New Delhi Apr 19 PTI Having pulled out of the fight for the top position in BAIs selection trials following a fitness issue former world number 11 Sameer Verma on Tuesday said he will be out of action for a few weeks and is eyeing a return at Thailand Open I had some issue with hip muscle and also shoulder It is not anything serious but I didnt want to take a chance The competition is tough and you just cannot win matches if you are not 100 per cent fit Sameer told PTI on the sidelines of the trials I will take a few weeks break I hope to play at Thailand Open The Indian team will play at the Asian Badminton championships beginning on April 26 followed by the Thomas and Uber Cup May 8-15 Bangkok The Thailand Open Super 500 is scheduled from May 17 to 22 in Bangkok The 27-year-old from Madhya Pradesh looked in good touch during the Denmark Open last year when he notched up convincing wins over Thailands Kunlavut Vitidsarn and Denmarks Anders Antonsen before retiring from the quarterfinals with a calf injury He played the French Open Super 750 as well next week only to withdraw again in the second round He focussed on his recovery in the next two months before turning up in the first two events in the India leg -- India Open Super 500 and Syed Modi International Super 300 He lost in the first round at All England before signing off at the Swiss Open quarters With the selection trials called to pick the teams for the Thomas Uber Cup Commonwealth Games July 28-August 8 Birmingham and Asian Games Hangzhou September 10-25 Sameer decided to play and also reached the top 4 before withdrawing I didnt want to make the same mistake I made at Denmark Open last year he signed off PTI ATK AH AH

Jammu Dec 24 PTI The Jammu and Kashmir government has set up a memorial to honour martyrs of the forest department inaugurated by Commissioner-Secretary Forests Sanjeev Verma here on Friday Verma paid rich tributes to the martyrs which was followed by presentation of a ceremonial guard of honour by the contingents of forest protection force foresters forest guard trainees and brass band of Border Security Force BSF the official spokesperson said The senior official attended the passing out parade of 31 Forest guards who have successfully completed their entry level training course from the forest guard training school at Akhnoor The Commissioner Secretary emphasised on sustainable and participatory management of forests for future generations He impressed upon the frontline officers to dedicate themselves towards protection of the green wealth of the UT He also called for management of forests as well as the non-timber forest produce firewood and fodder with the active participation of PRIs and people He said the Green India Mission will further help in increasing the quality of forests He appreciated the achievements of ongoing Green JK Drive and campaign on Har Gaon Hariyali Speaking on the occasion Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Mohit Gera said the forest frontline staff play an important role in meeting the objectives of the forest department He stressed upon further raising the training standards for frontline staff due to increasing challenges in protection of our forests Gera said the forest department is developing four foresters memorials in the current year out of which two have been completed He also informed that proposal of upgrading Kashmir Forest Training School Chitternar is being submitted to the government The senior officer said a JICA plan for upgradation of training schools and capacity building of forestry personnel has already been submitted for approval to the Union Environment Ministry PTI AB HDA
