Raipur Feb 27 PTI Paras Sahu 24 among the first batch of six students from Chhattisgarh who arrived in capital Raipur after being flown into the country from war-torn Ukraine late Sunday night said the day had brought immense happiness to him and his family and this was a journey that would remain etched in his memory for all time An official said Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel met these six students all pursuing medicine in Ukraine at Chhattisgarh Sadan in Delhi after their flight landed They landed in Raipur at around 8pm after taking a flight from Delhi he added Talking to reporters at Swami Vivekanand Airport Raipur Sahu who hails from Mahasamund district said We were lucky we were in Uzhhorod a city in Ukraine where the situation was not so serious when compared to other places We were however desperate to get back to our home and now we are happy Sahu a first year medical student said his university in Uzhhorod provided a bus and helped students to cross the border for evacuation Sahu and two more students are from Mahasamund while the remaining three are from Raipur Durg and Korea districts The parents of these students were teary eyed with joy most of them anxious as news channels were beaming the devastation being caused in Ukraine continuously through the day As per officials over 100 people including around 80 students from Chhattisgarh are stranded in Ukraine currently PTI TKP BNM BNM BNM

Hyderabad Feb 27 PTI So far 39 people from Telangana most of them students stranded in Ukraine have returned to India officials here said on Sunday The 39 residents of Telangana travelling with other Indian citizens from countries neighbouring Ukraine have landed in Mumbai and Delhi on February 26-27 said an official press release Telangana government made arrangements to receive the returnees at Delhi and Mumbai airports and also booked air tickets to carry them to Hyderabad said the release The first batch of 14 students from Telangana arrived in Hyderabad today They were brought from Mumbai where they had arrived on Saturday the officials said Similarly 23 more residents boarded flights in Delhi and were expected to reach Hyderabad tonight they said On the orders of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao arrangements were made to bring students back by extending all facilities including free flight tickets the release said The State government has set up helpline centres at Telangana Bhavan New Delhi and at the Secretariat here to pass on information to the parents about their children The government shall continue to liaise with the Centre over flying students back from the foreign nation said the release The students thanked Rao for the efforts taken by the government and the Indian Embassy in Ukraine We started on Friday afternoon from Ukraine and reached Romania after crossing the border by bus From there we flew to Mumbai a student who reached Hyderabad told TV channels Some were still in hostels and some others were in bunkers she said Some of our friends are still stranded there in Ukraine another student said PTI VVK GDK NVG NVG

Mumbai Feb 27 PTI The Indian students from Ukraine who landed here by the first evacuation flight of Air India are happy to have returned safely but are also anxious about future as the war has disrupted their education The Air India flight AI-1944 carrying 219 passengers from Bucharest Romania arrived at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here at 750 pm on Saturday I was a little worried when it all started But I am now happy to be back in the country The Indian embassy and Indian government helped us a lot said a medical student who went to Ukraine last June Another medical student who was in the second year of his course said he was confident of returning safely I want to go back to Ukraine but the situation is deteriorating there I may have to take online classes now he said A medical student from Maharashtra said he was very happy to be back But I am not sure how my future will pan out after this he said Union minister Piyush Goyal was at the airport to receive the Indian nationals returning from Ukraine which is reeling under an invasion by Russia From day one Prime Minister Narendra Modi was worried about all our students every Indian citizen and wanted all of them safe secure and back to India Goyal told reporters I am really delighted that our first batch of students has returned219 young boys and girls from all over the country from Himachal Pradesh down south from Gujarat Rajasthan Uttar Pradesh have arrived Students from all over the country have been taken care of he added The Air India flight had left from Mumbai for Bucharest at 338 am Saturday and landed there around 1045 am Indian Standard Time It departed for Mumbai at 155 pm IST The Ukrainian airspace has been closed for civil aircraft operations since the morning of February 24 and therefore the evacuation flights are operating out of Bucharest and Budapest Indian nationals who reached the Ukraine-Romania border by road have been taken to Bucharest by Indian government officials so that they can be evacuated in the Air India flights Around 16000 Indians mainly students were stranded in Ukraine Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had said on February 24 The Air India will operate more flights to evacuate Indians stranded in Ukraine Prior to the closure of the Ukrainian airspace the Air India had operated a flight to Ukraines capital Kyiv on February 22 that brought 240 people back It had planned to operate two more flights on February 24 and February 26 but could not as the Russian offensive began on February 24 and the Ukrainian airspace was consequently shut down PTI IAS KRK GK GK
