Mumbai Feb 25 PTI Top Army Air Force and Navy commanders took part in deliberations at a high-level meeting on various aspects of setting up an Integrated Maritime Theatre Command the Defence ministry said on FridayThe tri-services discussions on the modalities and structural framework for the creation of the Integrated Theatre Commands for the Armed Forces were held under the aegis of Western Naval Command in Mumbai it said adding that the meeting took place over two days on February 24 and 25This is yet another milestone towards building jointness and enhancing organisational synergy among the three Services A total of nine Commanders-in-Chief from the Indian Army Navy Air Force and ANC came together for a high-level meeting to discuss and deliberate on various aspects related to setting up of the Integrated Maritime Theatre Command the Defence ministry saidThe meeting was chaired by Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh who has been nominated as the lead C-in-C for the study it said adding that some 50 senior officers from various commands of the three services as well as from Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff and Department of Military Affairs took part in the meetingThey provided inputs towards laying a strong foundation for the theatre command the defence ministry added PTI PR BNM KRK KRK

New Delhi Jan 26 PTI The Indian Navy conducted a 20-day joint maritime exercise Paschim Lehar at the Arabian Sea to validate operational plans of the Western Naval Command and enhance inter-service synergy among the Navy Air Force Army and Coast Guard an official statement said on WednesdayThe exercise - called XPL-22 - concluded on Tuesday the Navys statement notedThe intra-theatre exercise included mobilisation and participation of over 40 ships and submarines of the Indian Navy it mentionedAdditionally the IAF Indian Air Force deployed SU 30 MKI and Jaguar maritime strike aircraft flight refuelling aircraft and airborne warning and control system AWAC alongside the Indian Navys maritime reconnaissance aircraft P8i Dorniers IL-38SD unmanned aerial systems and MiG-29K strike aircraft it notedVarious elements of the Indian Army including air defence batteries were also mobilised for the exercise After a long gap many OPVs offshore patrol vessels FPVs fast patrol vessels and air cushion vessels of the Coast Guard also participated in the exercise it statedA variety of weapon firings in a realistic tactical scenario besides validation of operational missions and tasks under varying settings were undertaken during the exercise it mentionedThe exercise provided all participating forces an opportunity to operate together under realistic conditions in responding to contemporary maritime challenges across the areas of the Western Naval Commands responsibility it notedThe exercise was conducted over a duration of 20 days with an objective to validate operational plans of the Western Naval Command and enhance inter-service synergy among the Indian Navy IAF Indian Army and Coast Guard it said PTI DSP RT RT

New Delhi Nov 20 PTI Indigenously-built stealth guided missile destroyer Visakhapatnam packed with an array of missiles and anti-submarine rockets will be inducted into the Indian Navy on SundayThe induction ceremony to be held at the Western Naval Command will be attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and top naval commanders officials saidVisakhapatnam is equipped with lethal weapons and sensors including supersonic surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles medium and short-range guns anti-submarine rockets and advanced electronic warfare and communication suits officials saidThe ship has the capability of embarking two integrated helicopters and boasts of a very high level of automation with sophisticated digital networks combat management systems and integrated platform management systems they saidIt is the first stealth guided-missile destroyer of the Rs 35000 crore Project 15B under which a total of four warships are being builtThe next ship is set to be commissioned in 2023 while the other two are planned to be inducted by 2025The warship has been designed by the Indian Navys in-house organisation the Directorate of Naval Design and constructed by Mazagon Dock LimitedThe majestic ship measures 163 metres in length 17 metres in breadth with a displacement of 7400 tonnesIt can rightfully be regarded as one of the most potent warships to have been constructed in India said an officialThe ship propelled by four powerful gas turbines is capable of achieving speeds in excess of 30 knotsIt is fitted with a modern surveillance radar that provides target data to the gunnery weapon systems of the ship the official saidThe ships anti-submarine warfare capabilities are provided by the indigenously developed rocket launchers torpedo launchers and anti-submarine warfare helicoptersThe ship is also equipped to fight under nuclear biological and chemical NBC warfare conditions the official saidThe commissioning of Visakhapatnam will reaffirm Indias presence amongst an elite group of nations with capability to design and build advanced warships Vice Admiral Satish Namdeo Ghormade the Vice Chief of Naval Staff said on Tuesday PTI MPB ZMN
