TMC will not vote in the Vice Presidential elections as Mamata Banerjee wasn’t informed about the Joint Opposition Candidate.

Mumbai: The Trinamool Congress Party has decided to refrain from voting in the vice presidential elections after Mamata Banerjee held a meeting with TMC’s MPs, as  Mamata Banerjee wasn’t notified of the candidate before the name was disclosed.

The NDA has nominated the former governor of West Bengal, Jagdeep Dhankhar, as its candidate in the elections for the vice-presidency, while the opposition parties have nominated the former governor of Rajasthan, Margaret Alva.

The TMC recorded its protest for the joint opposition candidate was announced without consulting Ms. Banerjee. Though Mamata Banerjee’s personal relationship with Alva is reportedly good, yet she is miffed at the opposition- Congress and even the NCP didn’t inform her before revealing Alva’s name. As a result, TMC will abstain from voting in the vice-presidential poll.

Although, Mamata Banerjee was asked to support NDA candidate by the state’s BJP leader .

The vice-presidential election will take place on August 6 to appoint the successor to Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, the current vice president whose term will end on August 10.
