Former US President Trump is under fire for removing confidential documents from the White House while vacating. Additionally, he also bragged about “openly and transparently” moving official files to his house.
Investigation over confidential documents removal
Donald Trump bragged about his ability to “openly and transparently” take confidential documents to his residence in Truth Social, his social media platform. Calling the search of his Florida house in August an “invasion” he stated that other Presidents also “took” similar records. The August raid revealed classified documents taken by Trump while vacating the official residence in January 2021.
“When will you invade Bill and Hillary’s home in search of the 33,000 emails she deleted AFTER receiving a subpoena from the US Congress? When will you invade the other Presidents’ homes in search of documents, which are voluminous, which they took with them, but not nearly so openly and transparently as I did?” questioned Trump.
More on the situation
The August raid disclosed a total of 15 boxes full of confidential documents. They were records relating to national defense information. Additionally, it contained 184 secret or top-secret files. The disclosure comes as the former president is under watch and facing an investigation by the US Justice Department. The investigation will decide if the business mogul broke federal laws by “taking” documents.
As per Business Insider reports, the pressure of the Department of Justice and Merrick Garland, the Attorney General is jacking up following Trump’s announcement to run for president in 2024. Other media reports reveal independent prosecutor Jack Smith will decide on charges for the files recovered from the August raid. Smith, a veteran war crime prosecutor was appointed as a special counsel for overseeing several charges involving the former president.
