Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Ragav Chaddha, on Thursday posed a supplementary question in the upper house of the parliament.
The AAP leader questioned addressing the house: “Deputy chairman sir (Harivansh Narayan Singh) you yourself have been a journalist and you understand the importance of news and how news is turning into noise.
“My question is simple, most channels in this country everyday from 5pm to 11 pm arrange toxic TV debates and create psychological pollution. My question is the government taking any action against such inflammatory channels and anchors?” The Punjab based leader asked.
To which I&B minister Anurag Thakur responded: “Its very clear, There are three levels in these cases. 1) The issue is resolved on the channel level 2) Its resolved on the association level if it does not resolve then it reaches interdepartmental committee. Till now we haven’t received any such complaints of toxic or inflammatory programs yet.”
“If you feel if there is any such complaint, then hon MP can give it to us in writing.” Anurag Thakur said.
“Its a three tier system and if our intervention is required we wont step back.” The Himachal Pradesh BJP leader said.
My supplementary question in Rajya Sabha today was about the toxic TV debates that cause temper flare-ups, aimed at inciting violence and whether the Centre was taking any steps in this regard.
