The World Health Organisation has granted emergency use authorisation to India’s Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin.

The vaccine was granted approval after the UN health agency’s Technical Advisory Group recommended use of Covaxin in two doses, with a interval of four weeks, in all age groups 18 and above.

The expert panel on October 26 had sought “additional clarifications” from the company for Covaxin to conduct a final “risk-benefit assessment” for Emergency Use Listing of the vaccine.

The WHO has already granted approval to 5 other vaccines so far- Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, and Sinopharm
