“He’s been deprived. What is his fault? I am very sad. I am really shocked. Sourav is a very popular personality”: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was shocked to learn about Sourav Ganguly not being renominated for the position of BCCI President, but Jay Shah is being allowed a second term as Secretary. She said that Sourav has been deprived. She appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to send him to ICC (International Cricket Council). She claims that Sourav Ganguly had been “unfairly left out.”

While speaking with reporters at the airport Mamata Banerjee said, “He’s been deprived. What is his fault? I am very sad. I am really shocked. Sourav is a very popular personality. He was the captain of the Indian team. He gave a lot to the country. He is not only the pride of Bengal but the pride of India. Why was he excluded in such an unfair way.”

Banerjee was on a four-day tour to North Bengal.

Speaking of Jay Shah still being on board she said, “Sourav is our pride and he played well and also did well as an administrator. He was given the responsibility of board president for three years and he served that role very well. We do not know why then after completing the term, he was removed and the son of Amitbabu (Son of Amit Shah, Jay Shah) remained there. We have no problem with him remaining as secretary of the BCCI but we want to know why Sourav was removed as BCCI president.”

In her appeal to PM Modi, she said, “This is my humble regards and request to the Prime Minister to allow him to contest in ICC. He is being deprived. What is his fault?”

On October 20, nominations for ICC will be filed.

Roger Binny will likely succeed Sourav Ganguly.

When Ganguly was removed from the BCCI, TMC, Congress, and CPI(M) leaders from Bengal protested against this decision. They said that the former captain of India was being punished for dismissing the BJP.

According to reports he wanted to continue as the chief of the board but reportedly didn’t get the backing he wanted from other members.
