The opposition on Thursday came down heavily on what they called a “gag order” on usage of certain words in Parliament. They stressed that ll terms used by the Opposition to describe the Modi dispensation would now be considered “unparliamentary”.
Before the start of parliament’s monsoon session scheduled to start from Monday, a new booklet by the Lok Sabha Secretariat was released informing about the words to be considered ‘unparliamentary’ in the Upper and Lower house of the parliament. Terms like ‘jumlajeevi’, ‘baal buddhi’, ‘Covid spreader’ and ‘Snoopgate’ and even commonly used words like ‘ashamed’, ‘abused, ‘betrayed’, ‘corrupt’, ‘drama’, ‘hypocrisy’ and ‘incompetent’ featured in the list of words to be banned in both houses.
TMC MP Derek O’Brien, known for his fierce speeches in parliament, said the government has “GAG ORDER ISSUED ON MPs”.
Session begins in a few days GAG ORDER ISSUED ON MPs. Now, we will not be allowed to use these basic words while delivering a speech in Parliament : Ashamed. Abused. Betrayed. Corrupt. Hypocrisy. Incompetent. I will use all these words. Suspend me. Fighting for democracy.”

Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala, sharing a copy of the news report on the same, said: “Saheb knows his qualities very well”.
Congress party, taking a swipe at Modi government, tweeted in Hindi: “Who will be afraid of ‘Jumlajeevi’ – who has given jumlas. Who will be afraid of the word ‘Jaichand’ – who has betrayed the country. These words are not being banned in Parliament, the fear of PM Modi is coming out.”

'जयचंद' शब्द से कौन डरेगा- जिसने देश से धोखा किया हो।

Jaiveer Shergill, the Congress spokepserson, also took to Twitter to criticise the move. Shergill wrote: “Latest List of ‘banned words’ in Parliament is BJP Govt desperate attempt to control criticism & hard hitting truth. BJP Government wants Parliament to turn into ‘yes man’ chamber and ‘cheerleading stadium’ rather than house of accountability and answerability.”

What’s happening in the country?”
The booklet, which lists out unparliamentary words and expressions, says words like ‘anarchist’, ‘Shakuni’, ‘dictatorial’, ‘taanashah’, ‘taanashahi’, ‘Jaichand’, ‘vinash purush’, ‘Khalistani’ and ‘khoon se kheti’ would also be expunged from the record if used during a debate or otherwise by the parliamentarians.

In different Legislative bodies in the country as well as in Commonwealth Parliaments, several words and expressions are declared unparliamentary from time to time by the Chair. These words have been compiled by the Lok Sabha Secretariat for ready reference in the future.
