Just days before the annual International Day of Happiness on March 20, the United Nations released its tenth annual World Happiness Report. This study looks at six key factors that influence happiness. Income, trust, life expectancy, social support, independence, and generosity. All the factors are taken into account in the research to decide which countries have the best overall well-being. And, as a result, are the happiest in the world. It ranks 150 countries (146 in 2022) based on characteristics like personal well-being, GDP, life expectancy, and so on. The list, now in its tenth year, assigns a score from 0 to 10 based on an average of data collected over a three-year period. Here’s a list of the top 5 world’s happiest countries in 2022.
List of the top 5 world’s happiest countries in 2022
1. Finland
Finland has been named the happiest country in the world for the fifth year in a row. While COVID-19 caused an economic downturn in the Nordic destination, its 5.5 million citizens remain optimistic about their government and way of life. Finland continues to set the bar high with a total score of 7.821 out of ten, owing to elements such as a high GDP per capita, social assistance, a long life expectancy, and charity. With beaches, lakes, islands, and woods as natural resources, it’s no surprise that the Nordic country maintains its citizens happy and attracts millions of visitors eager to experience Finnish bliss.
2. Denmark
Even though it has dropped to second place, there are several factors that contribute to the country’s continual high standing, including a stable government, free education and health care, and respect for human rights. Furthermore, because it is a tiny town, its residents do not have to travel far to enjoy its natural wonders. There are a lot of them. There are many places to relax.
3. Iceland
With a total score of 7.557, Iceland is at the 3rd spot this year. The island nation has a population of just over 366,000 people. The majority of them live in Reykjavik, the capital. Low crime rates, a good standard of living, and free, high-quality education are all advantages. Icelanders’ optimism stems from high literacy rates of 99 percent of the population and low unemployment rates that have now returned to pre-pandemic levels. However, the country’s breathtaking natural beauty has a significant impact on people’s happiness. Iceland is home to dramatic volcanoes, ice-covered glaciers, lush green plains, spectacular waterfalls, gorgeous hot springs, and magnificent fjords.
4. Switzerland
Switzerland is routinely ranked among the world’s happiest countries, and with good cause. Citizens have a sense of trust in the country because of its high GDP per capita, social support, and low levels of corruption. Switzerland, on the other hand, is far more than a country of banks, high-end watches, and chocolate. The Swiss are never far from a quiet hideaway in the mountains or an exquisite getaway by the water, with the magnificent Alps encompassing over 60% of the country and access to over 1,500 lakes.
5. Netherlands
Taking the fifth position with a total score of 7.415, this northern European country holds its place in the World Happiness Report for the fifth year in a row. Its citizens enjoy the best work-life balance in the world; as well as access to high-quality education, low crime rates, and a high level of discretionary money. With a rich and intriguing history, a thriving cultural sector, and stunning natural beauty, it’s no surprise that the Dutch have a high level of life satisfaction.
