Buckle up, because this is going to be a long ride! The world’s longest car has finally restored its glory and finesse and is ready to travel.

The super limo rolled in at a length of 30.54 meters (100 feet and 1.50 inches) on March 1, 2022. Thus, shattering the 1986 record by a little fraction.

“The American Dream” was first created in 1986 in Burbank, California by noted vehicle customizer Jay Ohrberg. It measured 18.28m (60 feet), rolled on 26 wheels, had a pair of V8 engines in the front and rear.

Ohrberg eventually enlarged the limo to a staggering 30.5 meters (100 feet) in length.

To put its enormous size into context, most cars are between 12 and 16 feet long (3.6 to 4.2 meters).

Features of The American Dream

Even if you parked 12 Smart Fortwo cars in a single file line, The American Dream would be longer than all of them.

The record-breaking vehicle is based on the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado limos. One can drive it from both ends and can also function as a rigid vehicle.

The car was constructed in two parts, with a hinge connecting them in the center for tight cornering.

Passengers can travel in style thanks to its big size and lavish features.

The American Dream, the world’s longest car, contains a large waterbed, a swimming pool with a diving board, a jacuzzi, a bathtub, a mini-golf course, and a helipad that can accommodate more than 75 people.

“The helipad is structurally mounted to the vehicle with steel brackets underneath and can hold up to five thousand pounds,” said Michael Manning. He was a part of The American Dream’s restoration.

It also comes with several televisions, a refrigerator, and a telephone, as if that wasn’t enough.

Manning and his team had to put in a lot of effort to restore The American Dream to its former splendor. It had fallen into disrepair after its abandonment in the back of a New Jersey warehouse for years.

The history of The American Dream

worlds longest car

The American Dream soared to recognition after being certified by Guinness World Records for the first time in 1986.

The long limo was frequently rented out for cinematic appearances. It was also a feature in many movies as one of the most remarkable autos to ever roll.

While the car was extremely popular during its time, it progressively lost the attention that had previously been paid to its upkeep.

Obstacles like finding a parking spot for such a long vehicle and a drop in demand for the distinctive car in movies caused its fame to fade.

The renowned automobile languished ignored for years after the world lost interest in The American Dream. It rusted with time, and parts of it were likely hopeless.

Ready to roll the world’s longest car

The American Dream is finally getting a new paint job and a new set of dazzling wheels after a lengthy restoration.

It won’t be sitting in a warehouse waiting to be seen any longer, but it also won’t be on the road.

“You really couldn’t put it on the road because it’s too long,” said Manning.

“It was built to be put on display.”

The stretched limousine will be on display alongside the remarkable collection of unique and antique cars at Dezerland Park Car Museum.

Manning says he’ll miss working on the one-of-a-kind vehicle. It has been a part of his life for more than a decade.

“Yeah, I feel an attachment to it. Everybody thought that I was out of my mind for wanting to restore it, but I had a vision.”
