The Grudge 3 has been described as “a dark and atmospheric terror ride” by critics. It has received mixed reviews from audiences but is considered inferior to its predecessor, The Grudge 2.

Don’t think of it as one of the world’s most horror movies but rather a supernatural detective story with horrific overtones.

The Conjuring (2013)

James Wan conceived the idea for The Conjuring long before he became a director; he created detailed notes on potential scenes, characters, and the storyline for the film. He pitched the idea to Peter Safran, who helped him produce many of his previous films. The Conjuring was produced on a budget of $20 million and filmed over three months in North Carolina from April to June 2012. Upon its release in July 2013, it grossed over $319 million worldwide against its budget and became one of the highest-grossing world horror movies of all time; it is currently the tenth highest-grossing horror film of all time unadjusted for inflation.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was shot on location in Austin, Texas, over eight days in the summer of 1973. The budget was extremely low, and the cast and crew were mostly inexperienced.

Critics have praised The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for its unrelenting terror, brutal violence, and subversive humor. It has been ranked among the greatest horror films ever made and has inspired numerous sequels, remakes, spin-offs, books, comics, video games, toys, soundtracks, and clothing items.

The Ring (2002)

Watts plays Rachel Keller, a journalist investigating the videotape. She watches it, and then must find its origin to save her son’s life. Chase plays Samara Morgan, the girl who died in the well and created the tape. The Ring was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Actress (Watts) and Best Supporting Actress (Chase).

Sinister (2012)

The movie starts with a bang—literally. We see a family of four being brutally murdered in their own home with a camcorder left behind capturing the entire thing. We then cut to the present day where we meet true-crime writer Ellison Oswalt (played by Ethan Hawke). He’s just moved his family into a new house to escape the public eye after his last book flopped.

While exploring his new attic, Ellison finds a box of old Super 8 mm films. Upon further inspection, he realizes that these are the same films from the unsolved murders years ago. And then the story continues.

Insidious (2010)

The story follows a family who, after moving into a new house, begins to experience supernatural activity that seems to be focused on their son. They soon discover that the activity is coming from a malevolent force that is trying to possess him.

The film stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne as the parents, with Barbara Hershey, Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, and Leigh Whannell in supporting roles. “Insidious” was released in theaters on April 1, 2011, and grossed over $97 million worldwide.

Critical reception for “Insidious” was generally positive and many praised the direction, acting, cinematography, and atmosphere.
