Maurh: A gripping tale of vengeance in Colonial-era Punjab

Maurh is a period film set at the end of the 19th century, during the British era. It was time of dual servitude of people towards the colonial masters and the zamindars, who cruelly fed off people's labor on the harsh terrains of a lesser-known Punjab.

Ammy Virk plays Jeona Morh and does a superb job of bringing Maurh's bravery and perseverance to life. He gives the impression of a man who is driven by a strong passion for liberty and justice. Dev Kharoud's portrayal of Kishna Maurh provides a great counterpoint to Virk's performance and adds depth and emotional force to the narrative.

The historical drama is based on the story of Jeona Morh, a god-fearing, earnest man who turned to crime after taking up arms to defend oppressed people. Maurh Movie Plot

Jeona Maurh, an ordinary villager in colonial-era Punjab, is compelled to take up arms against the British empire, in order to avenge his bandit brother Kishna's murder. Jeona is resolved to destroy the exploitative land tax mafia that works hand in glove with the Indian monarchs and Britishers, impoverishing the people and seeking vengeance against Dogar, another dacoit who betrayed Kishna.

After being surrounded by British forces, Jeona, a devout follower of Naina Devi, jumps from a cliff near her temple in the movie's last scene. While Jeona was killed in this conflict in real life by being shot at by the British rather than by jumping off the cliff, Maurh closes the movie on a happy note.
