The most awaited sports drama encompassing the triumph of 1983 world cup, featuring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev is waving in theatres. The movie is an amalgamation of emotions, honor, pride, and sentiments

The most awaited sports drama is finally released. The triumph of Team India’s victory is playing loud in the cinema halls near you and this is definitely unmissable. The flick helmed by Kabir Khan and co-produced by Deepika Padukone revolves around the 1983 world cup. Ranveer gets in the shoes of captain Kapil Dev. Deepika Padukone plays Romi Bhatia, Kapil’s wife.

Khan’s passionate dedication to a could really do and we did-do mentality brings back recollections of monochrome images, shaky recordings, and flashbacks from decades of Indians. With the same assuredness with which Khan has made his most delightful film, the guys in white, led by Kapil Dev, weave a narrative of the completely unanticipated.

The film, which is already jam-packed with people and happenings, manages to squeeze in a few laugh-out-loud moments whenever it can. Every time West Indian star striker Vivian Richards (Jacques Taylor) steps onto the pitch, a hilarious huddle ensues.

In the second quarter, Kabir Khan intensifies the emotions and tugs on the feelings which can also be deceptive.  The storyline was kept simplistic by the director in an effort to appeal to our nation’s lowest universal standard. The screenplay’s reduction takes away the adrenaline and tension, but that’s Kabir’s approach to creating a worldwide drama that appeals to a wide range of audiences. And it is this factor that may work in 83’s favor in the big scheme of things. The second half of the screenplay is jam-packed with audience-pleasing moments that are sure to elicit applause.

Jiva as Srikkanth is a hoot, throwing in the hilarity at frequent intervals. Pankaj Tripathi as PR Man Singh is dependable as usual. Deepika Padukone shines in her role and has a memorable scene in the film. Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khatter, Ammy Virk, Adinath Kothare, R Badree, Neena Gupta, Boman Irani, and the rest of the ensemble perform admirably in their characters.

In a nutshell, the movie will awaken the Indian within you and make your chest puff up with pride. Kabir Singh has done a good job of convincing others who haven’t seen this magnificent moment to follow that path. It will not harm those who witnessed the real occurrence to relive one of the proudest moments in Indian history with a wet eye.
