While we loved watching ZEE5 Original Shoot-out At Alair in the form of a web series, could it have been a movie? What goes into directing on sets during the pandemic? ZEE5 got into a candid chat with director Anand Ranga as he told us about the making of the series Shoot-out At Alair, and much more.

Q. You returned to the director’s chair after really long. Any specific reason behind the hiatus?
A. Was trying out other things in different capacities as a filmmaker.
Q. A comeback during Covid sounds thrilling. Was it a smooth ride?
A. It wasn’t smooth but we were prepared for it so it went off well.
Q. Why did you choose to tell this story through a series and not a film?
A. I feel that in today’s times, once you like the content, you need to decide which is the best way to tell this content. And so, I felt a series was the best way for this particular content.
Q. You put together a dream cast for Shoot-out at Alair. How was your experience shooting for them?
A. It was easy. Everyone was a professional and knew exactly what they had to do.
Q. What projects do you have lined up after this one?
A. Writing another script now. I will start pitching it once that’s done.
Q. Would you tell the viewers why Shoot-out At Alair is a must-watch this long weekend?
A. Any cop drama is very interesting to watch. And this is based on a real incident.
Q. A large part of the story was shot across real locations. Did you face any hurdles during pre-production and shooting?
A. Permissions and hesitation from the concerned people were the major hurdles in these times.
Q. As a viewer, which one would you choose, out of theatre and OTT?
A. Both are equally good. It depends on which content it is. Few stories demand a theatrical experience. Few stories need to be told in absolute detail, through a series.
Shoot-out At Alair was widely loved by the audience and the good news is that it might not be a long wait before we get to see Ranga’s work again!
