Filmmaker Nagraj Manjule and his style of storytelling has always left everyone fascinated. The world he delves into through his films is very real and disturbing. And quite similarly, he weaves the same magic in the short film ‘Pavsacha Nibandh’. The film follows the story of a young boy who is assigned with a homework of writing ‘an essay of the rain’. Upon returning from school, the film follows his whereabouts throughout the day.

And this includes finding his drunkard father amidst the heavy rainfall, helping his mother fixing the shack, etc. With nearly no dialogues, the short flick speaks through its visuals. And towards the climax, it leaves you teary-eyed.
Helmed by Avinash Arun, the film Killa revolves around a young boy Chinmay who moves from a city to the countryside. The story essays his struggle adapting to the new way of life, experiencing a whole new culture. There are various metaphors, the director uses to emphasize Chinmay’s journey through the film’s mesmerizing visuals. Fort and the setting of the monsoon here are used in different phases of the story.

At the beginning of the film, it resembles Chinya’s lonesomeness and grief. And nearing the climax, the same setting shines like a new beginning of his life.
Nude follows the story of a mother named Yamuna who deals with the hardships of the city. Her only aim is to provide better education to her son. And thus she enlists as a nude model at an arts college. But problems arise when her secret life comes to light. In the near climax scene, we see a heartfelt conversation between Yamuna and Jairam, an art student. They both are at a seashore, it’s raining heavily, and amid this Yamuna takes an unexpected decision.
This scene shapes up as an exciting climax while living up to its prominent theme ‘art in the modern world’. Director Ravi Jadhav dissolves the romanticism of rain through this interesting scene.
Children dealing with the grief of death is an interesting theme the film Vihir embodies. Two cousins, Sameer and Nachiket share a great bond with each other. Writing letters, discussing life, science, etc. is what these two boys are often involved in. Problems arise when Nachiket is found dead and Sameer finds it quite hard to deal with this loss. Here, filmmaker Umesh Kulkarni uses rains and silent frames as a metaphor for Sameer’s grief.
Also, during the climax, when Sameer meets an old farmer, the film uses rain as an element of problems and grief, & the climax leaves a mark on the viewers.
