Hina Khan is an actress who has made her place in people’s hearts as Akshara and Komolika. Post her stint in Bigg Boss and Khatron Ke Khiladi, her fan base increased even more as people were able to see her real self.
Hina Khan wanted to pursue journalism after her MBA degree. She also thought of being an air hostess at some point but never of being an actress. She had even enrolled herself for an air hostess training course in Mumbai but got ill due to malaria and couldn’t join.
Hina comes from a conservative Kashmiri family. Her parents weren’t even allowing her to come to Delhi for studies, but somehow she convinced her father. When her friends had asked her to join them for the auditions of a television show, she said no. But they forced her, and she went and performed.
The very next day, she got a call from the producer of ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ and told her she nailed the lead role, and she accepted. For weeks she hadn’t told her parents about the audition and moved to Mumbai without their knowledge.
When she told her parents, they were totally against it. Relatives and friends cut ties with her family. But she had already started loving her work, and her father approved too upon seeing her happiness. Though, he made a condition that she doesn’t drop her studies. The hardworking Sanskari bahu studied in between shots at night and took her exams in Delhi during the day.
She was also told not to do any steamy scenes or wear short clothes. But later, she took her decisions into her hands. When her parents warmed up to the idea of their daughter being an actor, she introduced them to Rocky. Everyone in her family was shocked as that was highly unconventional in her family. But after they got to know him, they approved of him as well.
Hina Khan has revealed that even while playing Akshara, she got film offers for some big and small projects. But while working with the show, she had to let them go. As per her, getting the role of Akshara was easy, and she made a lot of name and money for herself. She played the sanskari bahu, the ideal daughter and an ideal mother, and was loved for it. But, her struggle started when she quit the show.
When she started looking for work post quitting her show, a producer told her that he wanted to work with her. His issue was that when he searched for her on YouTube, all he could find was her as Akshara. He told her he would want to see more and know what more can Hina do.
No matter big or small, all he told her was he wanted to see more. That knocked some sense in Hina, and she started doing work that felt right without any regard to the project’s size. She wanted to make sure that whenever anyone searches for her online, they get to see a myriad of her work.
Before Bigg Boss, people perceived her as a regular television bahu. A typical bahu is usually stereotyped as a very sensitive and docile person. But in Bigg Boss, she was able to show people her strong personality. People were able to see that she is opinionated, she can voice her thoughts loudly, and she is competitive. Through Bigg Boss, she could flaunt her flawless fashion sense, which many young viewers started following.
Along with that, she learned a lesson at Bigg Boss that she promises to keep practicing, which is “never judge anyone.” At Bigg Boss, she was sometimes portrayed as a vamp, but in reality, she says that people didn’t get to see the entire episode. They just saw the edited parts of incidents because those worked well for the show.
Anyway, she owes Bigg Boss as she got a lot of work post the show, and she did them perfectly.
Hina Khan felt proud when she represented India at the Cannes Film Festival. She started getting a lot of attention & texts from fashion designers. She received love and appreciation from fashion designers known to give their ensembles to a select few.
For whatever hate and snide remarks she got, she took them sportingly. In her belief, she made people notice her, which got even the haters to make an effort to write about her.
Hina Khan’s journey from a conservative family to show business is inspiring for many. She had the guts to take risks along her career path, and that bore her fruits.
