Jai Hemant Shroff, aka Tiger Shroff, came into the industry dancing to the famous tune remixed from his father’s film. The movie grabbed the people's attention with its cool music and even more cool action kicks and punches from Tiger. Since then, Tiger has set an image of an action-packed commercial hero in the industry.
As a kid, Tiger used to scratch his father with his nails a lot. His father found this habit similar to a tiger’s, so he called his son Tiger which also became his stage name.
When Tiger Shroff entered the industry, due to his clean-shaven look, he was trolled heavily. People made fun of how he looked like a girl. The trolling was very difficult for the father-son duo, but Tiger got through it like a tiger. People liked his work, and today, he enjoys an ever-increasing fan following.
To Tiger, his father is his hero. To escape from any situation in childhood, all he did was run off to Jackie. On days when he didn’t wish to go to school, he’d go and sleep hugging his father in the morning. When his mother used to force him out of bed, his father saved him.
Tiger Shroff in his school used to be a model student. He used to stay quiet in class, and whenever his classmates created a nuisance, his teachers often used him as an example that he's disciplined even after being a Starkid. Hearing this, some of his classmates used to get pissed & thrashed him after classes.
But he did his share of pranks as well. He used to stick chewing gum on other people's seats, which used to stick on their bottoms.
Tiger Shroff had been getting movie offers since he was young. In fact, Subhash Ghai had made a deal on Tiger’s birth with Jackie to cast Tiger in his movie when he grows up. So when Heropanti was offered, Tiger felt that he’d be able to showcase the skills he had been working on since childhood in this movie. He came to know that Bruce Lee was an actor first & martial artist second. It wouldn't affect the movie much if he didn’t come out as a convincing actor while throwing a kick or punch.
Tiger Shroff has been practicing martial arts since he was 4 when he watched Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon. He also loves to play football and dance. His passion for dance comes from Michael Jackson. He was once watching his song when his legs started moving involuntarily, and he couldn't stop dancing.
As a child, he never seriously thought about acting and was hoping to make a profession in sports. Tiger is so skilled that he learned martial art forms like Kalaripayattu, Modern Kung Fu & Krav Maga in less than a year.
When Tiger decided to enter the industry, he knew he’d have to stand out as every second film is launching a new actor. Using his skills in action & stunts, he’s trying to set his image as an action hero. He has no qualms about being typecast as an action hero. He admits that he’s not a versatile actor. But he knows that action heroes all around the world get the most appreciation, and he’s after just that.
For his debut, Tiger followed an extreme regime and diet to prepare for the movie. His interest in gymnastics and gym impressed Amir Khan. Amir called him for one of his sessions with the American Gymnast Trainer for Dhoom 3’s preparation. With the release of his first movie, the actor showed that he could dance, act and give his audience a full-on action-packed entertainer masala movie.
Tiger’s mother’s movie Boom got leaked, due to which they faced financial losses. They had to sell off their furniture and apartment to cover the finances. He moved to a smaller apartment, slept on the floor, and wanted to work at that time to help his family. This struggle motivated him to do well in life. When he entered the industry, he promised his mother that he’d buy their apartment back & he did.
His insecurities drive his performances. Tiger is among those actors who have openly told about his insecurities like, will his work be liked by his parents, audience, co-stars, other filmmakers, etc. Though he doesn’t ask his parents for advice while signing a film, he seeks their validation. And for that, he puts his best foot forward in all his performances.
Tiger Shroff is one of the most sincere actors in the industry. He knows his plus points and is building his reliability on that. He doesn’t want to be mixed with the new lot of actors pouring into the industry, nor does he hope people find his father in him. The actor is sure that he wants to create his own identity, and so far, he’s successful in it.
