The legendary Indian film actor Dilip Kumar is celebrating his 98^th birthday today. The actor is often referred to as the Tragedy King and The First Khan among his fans. He is also considered to bring the method acting technique in Indian cinema. Apart from his numerous hit movies, the veteran actor is also known for his love story with Madhubala. Dilip Kumar and Madhubala’s love story is one of the most talked-about stories in the Indian film industry. Dilip Kumar later married Saira Banu but he used to love Madhubala before his marriage. Madhubala is considered as one of the most beautiful actors to have ever graced the Indian film industry. She had dedicated her life for her career in acting and films. Unfortunately, Madhubala’s career was cut short when she passed away in the year 1969 at the age of 36. She was known for her unmatched beauty and acting skills. From directors to actors, almost everyone in that era had a huge crush on Madhubala.

She had worked with Dilip Kumar in Mughal-E-Azam, Tarana, Sangdil and Amar. It is said that Dilip Kumar had started rebellion for Madhubala against everyone including her father. He had also decided to marry Madhubala but her father was strongly opposed to their marriage. Dilip Kumar’s love story with Madhubala started in the year 1951 when the duo was shooting for the film Tarana. It was love at first sight for both of them. It is said that Madhubala had confessed about her feelings towards Dilip Kumar with rose and a letter. Their love story was moving forward but it soon hit a roadblock while shooting the B R Chopra’s film Naya Daur. Madhubala’s father was against her relationship with Dilip Kumar from the start.

As per popular account, the filming of Naya Daur had an outdoor schedule of 40 days. However, Madhubala’s father strongly opposed this shoot. The reason behind this is said to be Dilip Kumar and Madhubala’s relation and her bad health. Later, Vyjayanthimala was signed for Madhubala’s role after which this issue and Dilip Kumar’s love story reached the courts. Dilip Kumar stood with the director of Naya Daur and testified against Madhubala. The actress was deeply hurt by Dilip Kumar testifying against her. After breaking things off with Madhubala, Dilip Kumar was single for a long time.

Dilip Kumar met Saira Banu in the year 1960 regarding a film. She was 20 years younger to him at that time. In an interview, Saira Banu had revealed that she wanted to marry Dilip Kumar since she was 12 years old. However, Dilip Kumar was reluctant to marry a girl who was 20 years younger than him. After the initial hesitation, Dilip Kumar married Saira Banu in the year 1967. At that time, Dilip Kumar was 44 years old and Saira was 22.
