Neena Gupta spoke up about why she didn’t tell her mother about being abused as a child by a doctor and a tailor. In her autobiography, Sach Kahun Toh, the actor recounted both pleasant and negative recollections from her school days. In the book, Neena described a visit to an optometrist in which her brother was instructed to sit in the waiting area while she was inside.
The doctor began by inspecting Neena Gupta’s eye and then moved down to check out other places that were unrelated to her eye. She was terrified and horrified the entire time it was occurring. When no one was watching, she sat in a home corner and wept her eyes out. But she didn’t tell her mother about it because she was afraid she’d accuse her of being to blame. That she had most likely said or done something to irritate the doctor. This occurred to her several times at the doctor’s place.
Neena described her visit to the tailor as very handsy, saying he got too handsy while collecting her measurements. She went on to say that she was compelled to return even after the experience because she felt like she didn’t have an option. If she told her mother she didn’t want to go see them, she would ask why, and she would have to explain. The star also stated that at the age of 16, she was approached by a friend’s brother who had recently married. She managed to respectfully reject his approaches without insulting him or his family.
Neena quickly realized that all of the other ladies at college had been in similar circumstances, but none of them would inform their parents because that would mean that the little independence that they had would be taken away. Worse, they could be accused of bringing it on themselves. While toddlers as young as three years old are now taught the distinction between a good touch and a poor touch, Neena claims that as teens, they were not educated about either.
