Shoot-out At Alair is heavily based on the case files of Vikaruddin Ahmed, a deadly terrorist who was a part of the Islamic extremist group Students Islamic Movement of India which was allegedly linked to Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami. Vikaruddin was responsible for the killings of the Hindu Police officers in Hyderabad in 2009 and 2010, in the name of ‘avenging’ the deaths of his Muslim brothers.
He was reported to be encountered in 2011 but it turned out to be false as he surfaced as a threat to the police force again and was finally encountered in 2015 while they were trying to escape the police on their way to the Warangal jail. A very large part of the show is based on case files which are objectively shown by Anand Ranga without tampering with any of the facts so that the whole truth is brought out.
As Meka Srikanth himself revealed “A small part of the show was fictionalised. The makers made sure that justice was done to the script.” Changes like the names of characters were made to protect the identity of these people. For example, Vikar Ahmed was changed to Akhtar Ahmed. The character is beautifully played by Teja Kakumanu. The show is extremely objective and only presents the case’s facts without trying to mask the viewers with any agenda.
