Anandamoyee suggests Rani and Chandra visit the Ganges in the palanquin. Rani and Chandra spend some private moments with each other. In order to keep Mathur away from the Marh business, Jagadamba intends to leave the house and wants Mathur to start his own business. Jagadamba gets worried when Mathur leaves during a heavy storm. Later, Mathur asks Jagadamba not to leave him. The next day, Chandra gets worried to learn from Eliot that the East India Company would seize his property.
