Sage Vishwamitra tells prince Ram and Laxman about the legend behind Shiv Dhanush. He also tells the princes that King Janak had decided that whosoever is able to lift the Shiv Dhanush would be the perfect groom for his daughter, Sita. Sage Vishwamitra takes Ram and Laxman to an abandoned ashram. He tells Ram about Ahilya, who was turned into a statue by Sage Gautam. He states Ahilya was waiting for Ram to set her free. With his miraculous powers, Ram touches the statue. Ahilya praises Ram and descends into heaven. Sage Vishwamitra, Ram and Laxman continue their journey and arrive at Mithila. Sage Vishwamitra introduces Ram and Laxman as King Dasarath's sons. He states that he took Ram and Laxman with him to protect his ashram from the demons. King Janak gets mesmerized to see the aura on Ram's face. He wishes to get Ram married to Sita, however cannot as he had vowed to get Sita married to the person, who lifts the Shiv Dhanush. Sita's friend wants Sita to meet Ram and Laxman. Sita refuses to go as King Janak had organised her swayamvar. The next day, Sita inadvertently happens to see Ram in the garden.
