Devi: A Princess of Nagaloka

Devi is an optimistic and quintessential movie about a Nagin. It is a drama movie with many spooky and powerful scenes. Devi is an Indian Telugu film directed by Kodi Ramakrishna but was later dubbed in Hindi and available on Zee5. 

As the title suggests, this Hindi-dubbed movie is based on a supernatural phenomenon with a divine element. The story narrates a tale of a semi-divine woman (Nagin) who encounters difficulties after leaving the serpent kingdom. And while living on Earth, she falls in love with a handsome man who is also infatuated with her. The Devi movie even showcases the victory of good over evil.

Along with the script, the soundtrack of the movie also had a significant major role in the movie. Devi Sri Prasad, composing the soundtrack, made his debut at 19; this makes him the second-youngest music debutant after Yuvan Shankar Raja, who made his first film at 16.

The movie has an expressive cast, comprising Prema as the movie's main character, the Devi (Snake Princess), Abu Salim as Dantra, Shiju as Vijay, and Vanitha Vijayakumar as Suseela (Vijay's sister-in-law) along with others.

Devi Movie Plot

On the day of an eclipse, Devi, a Nagini from Nagaloka, travels to Earth with her friends to perform a special pooja. All her friends were back in Nagaloka other than Devi, as Dantra diverted her, an evil Naga, who imprisoned Devi with fire during the eclipse. 

Suseela's father, who Dantra also kills, intervenes to save Devi. In return, Devi decides to protect Suseela from her relatives. Suseela and Raghava fall in love. They get married after Devi mends the strained ties between their families.

With due permission from Nagadeva, Devi stays on Earth to protect Suseela till she does not give birth to a baby. Devi marries Vijay (Raghav's younger brother) to perform an auspicious pooja on behalf of Suseela and protect her baby. The story has many supernatural snake fights in between. 

In the end, Devi kills the demon Dantra, with the help of Shakti Devi, by keeping everyone in the family safe. Devi waves goodbye and departs to Nagaloka. However, Nagadeva reappears and gives Devi back to Vijay as Devi is no longer an unmarried Nagini.

A lot of people have enjoyed every thrilling scene in the Devi movie. The movie was dubbed into Tamil and Hindi later. At the box office, each of the three versions, including Telugu, was a hit. Everyone praised the cast of the Devi movie. The protagonist, antagonist, Shiju, Vanitha, Babu Mohan, and everyone in the movie were praised for their acting. In 1999, Master Mahendra won the Nandi Award for Best Child Actor role.
