Mughal-E-Azam movie plot

Mughal Emperor Akbar (Prithvi Raj Kapoor) does not have a male heir. He visits several temples, mosques, and shrines and prays that he be blessed with a son. Finally, his wife Jodhabai gives birth to a son. Akbar is overjoyed and gives the maid who brings this news to him anything she desires. The young prince grows up to become a spoilt Prince Salim (Dilip Kumar) who falls in love with a court dancer named Anarkali. 

Akbar is furious when he learns about this love affair. He imprisons Anarkali and asks her to forget the prince. Salim rebels against his father but loses on the battleground. Akbar sentences Salim to death but says he will forgive him if Anarkali dies in his place. Watch the movie to find out who wins the battle of love and hate in the royal family.
