Actor Indrajith Sukumaran and wife Poornima’s take on parenting is a must-watch for every parent out there

Actor Indrajith Sukumaran and wife Poornima, in a recent video, were heard saying that there are certain things parents should avoid telling their children. In a recent video,  fashion designer/model Poornima sitting on a couch with actor husband Indrajith, discusses the ‘don’ts’ of parenting. The couple talks about how parents talk to  their kids about their complexion and physical appearance, and how this must stop.

“We should not even say these as a joke to children. It will create inferiority complex and confidence issues,” says Poornima.

The 2-minute-long video addresses the stereotyping of boys and girls, unequal treatment, body shaming and other things that should be avoided. With slow music in the background, the duo talks about all the “Vendatharangal” (things not needed). This is part of a positive parenting campaign initiated by the Department of Women and Child Development (WCD) of Kerala in association with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The video is titled ‘Vendatto’ (don’t do this) and it couldn’t have a more fitting name. Poornima  further says, “parents should become role models, treat boys and girls equally and divide responsibilities among them. Mutual respect should begin at home. Spend more time with children, stand with them on every step they take. Be their model.”  “We can grow as parents and raise them well,” adds Indrajith.

The couple, who are parents to two children of their own, has often talked about their kids and parenting methods in multiple interviews. The Mohanlal actor has often emphasized on the importance of instilling positive thoughts in children’s minds. The current campaign which the video is associated with, was launched in October with a series of webinars for parents to attend. The celebrity couple talking about the most basic things of parenting is something every parent must take note of.
