2020 has turned out to be quite shocking and heart-aching for everyone. From the coronavirus pandemic to the numerous deaths of celebrities and other eminent personalities, this year has been incredibly sad. As far as Bollywood is concerned, not just the shooting was stalled or celebrities were infected with Covid-19, but some of our favourite stars left us this year. Here’s remembering the ones we lost.
On April 29, the Indian film industry lost one of its finest gems – Irrfan Khan. The legendary actor passed away due to complications from a colon infection. In March 2018, the late actor had shared that he had been diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor .He underwent treatment for the same in the UK. Within 24 hours of Irrfan’s death, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor passed away on 30th April after a 2-year-long battle with cancer. The news of their passing left the entire film fraternity in shock.
A well-known composer and singer of the Hindi film industry, Wajid Khan passed away in Mumbai on June 1. Reportedly, the 42-year-old composer had underlying kidney ailments and died following a cardiac arrest after he got diagnosed with Covid-19. The industry also lost one of its most popular and talented actors, Sushant Singh Rajput, to suicide on June 14. His death garnered a lot of media attention and many media channels reported that his death was not due to suicide, but was a foul murder.
Veteran choreographer Saroj Khan also passed away on July 2 due to cardiac arrest. The late choreographer had composed more than 3000 songs for many celebrities. Sholay’s Surma Bhopali Jagdeep, who was known for his comic roles passed away on July 8 following age-related issues.
Popular actor of the Hindi television industry Sameer Sharma was found dead in his Mumbai residence on August 5. He was known for his role in the Hindi serial Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii and the film Hasee Toh Phasee. Indian classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj died of cardiac arrest on August 17 in New Jersey. His career spanned over 75 years.
Renowned filmmaker Nishikant Kamat passed away on August 17 due to cirrhosis. Iconic singer S.P. Balasubramaniam died due to Covid-19 complications on September 25 in Chennai. He had reportedly recorded over 40,000 in the span of his illustrious career. Another popular face of the television industry Faraaz Khan died of a neurological disorder on November 4 and Jab We Met star Asif Basra was found dead in a private complex in Dharamshala on November 12.
