Naga Shaurya’s father among 30 held in gambling case; Rs 6.72 lakh in cash seized

Tollywood actor Naga Shaurya’s father Shivalinga Prasad was arrested by the Cyberabad police on Wednesday, in connection with a gambling case. According to the details, Shivalinga Prasad had allegedly violated the lease conditions of his farmhouse situated near Hyderabad.

The development comes after the Special Operations Team (SOT) of the Cyberabad police raided the farmhouse located in Manchirevula under Narsingi police limits, on October 31. Following the raids, the police seized three cars, some incriminating material, along with Rs 6.72 lakh in cash.

A case under Telangana Gaming Act was registered at Narsingi Police Station under the limits of Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, the police said. A total of 30 people were arrested in the case, including, former Mahabubabad MLA Sriram Bhadraiah. The main accused in the case was identified as Gutta Suman Kumar.

It was learnt that Shivalinga Prasad had leased the farmhouse to Kumar after the latter said he wanted to organise a birthday party. The police also revealed that Prasad had prior information about the gambling racket being organised at the farmhouse by Kumar, yet he leased the space to the main accused. The police also said Kumar frequently organised gambling activities in different parts of the Telugu states.

Meanwhile, Prasad was produced before the court on Wednesday, a senior police official said. Earlier on November 6, the Hyderabad police had booked Aravind Agarwal, a 55-year-old businessman, for organising a gambling party for several VIPs in the city. Those apprehended during the raid reportedly included four MLAs of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS).

According to a police statement, Aravind Agarwal, along with the four MLAs, was booked for allegedly playing poker and playing loud music during an after-party organised on Diwali. A similar case had come to the fore in October this year too, when 13 people were arrested by the Uppal police for indulging in three cards gambling at a house in Chilkanagar. The police had seized Rs 6,850 along with several sets of playing cards from the accused.
