After Italy’s victory against England in the UEFA Euro 2020 finals, there was a ruckus outside the Wembley Stadium on Sunday. As per a leading daily, the England supporters were upset over the loss and ‘attacked the Italian fans outside the stadium’, breaking Covid-19 protocol in the process. As per the daily, apart from hitting, there was a ‘lot of racial abuse and stomping of the Italian national flag as well.’

Visuals from the ruckus have gone viral on social media. The daily reported that in the viral video, a fan could be seen ‘spitting on the Italian flag while another could be seen stepping on it repeatedly.’ Apart from the clash between the fans of the two teams, there were reports of a security breach as well. Fans reportedly tried to enter the perimeter area of Wembley before the start of the match.

The Metropolitan Police said on Twitter, “Our policing operation for the #Euro2020 final is drawing to a close. Thank you to the tens of thousands of fans who had good spirits and behaved responsibly. We made 49 arrests during the day for a variety of offences. We will have officers on hand throughout the night.”

Another tweet read, “Frustratingly, 19 of our officers were injured while they confronted volatile crowds. This is wholly unacceptable. A big thanks to officers across London and our blue light colleagues for their part in keeping Londoner’s safe and moving tonight.”
