Silence Can You Hear It Review: Great Plot, Unpredictable Suspense Make This Manoj Bajpayee Starrer A Must-Watch

Silence…Can You Hear It, the latest mystery thriller film on ZEE5. Written and directed by Aban Bharucha Deohans, the film revolves around the mystery behind a young girl’s murder, which has no witnesses and proofs. The film stars Manoj Bajpayee, Prachi Desai, Arjun Mathur, Vaquar Sheikh, and Sahil Vaid and makes for an engaging and thrilling watch. Read on to know our review of Silence… Can You Hear It?

The film begins with four college kids trekking on a hill, and engrossed in their own fun times. Suddenly, they hear a phone ringing, which is not theirs, and seems even more strange because there’s hardly any reception on the hills. When they look for the source of the sound, they stumble across the dead body of a young girl. The scene where the first of the four guys sees the body and is sent into a shock has been well-shot. It perfectly captures the boy’s trauma, while also establishing the crime scene.

The film then proceeds to the victim, Pooja’s family (Barkha Singh), where they have organized her condolence meet. We meet our first important characters in that scene, who are MLA Ravi Khanna, Justice Choudhary and Nirmala Devi. Justice Choudhary (Shishir Sharma) is Pooja’s father, Nirmala Devi (Sohaila Kapoor) is her mother, MLA Ravi Khanna (Arjun Mathur) is her best friend’s husband. While the three are talking, MLA Ravi Khanna shares that two days before her death, Pooja had visited his house, to meet her friend Kavita (Hitha Chandrashekhar), Ravi’s wife.

Since Kavita was not in the city, Pooja decided to stay the night in the house and visit Kavita the next day. However, the next day after Ravi left for his work and returned home from midway, he found Kavita falling down the stairs in the house with no sign of Pooja. This accident of Kavita lands her in a comatose stage, admitted to a hospital. When Justice Choudhary hears the account, he decides he wants the investigation of the case to get assigned to ACP Avinash Verma (Manoj Bajpayee).

In the next scene, we are introduced to ACP Verma, who is in the narcotics department. His introductory scene shows him busting a drug gang, and being ruthless when it comes to justice. ACP Verma accepts the case and is allotted a new team, which has Inspector Sanjana (Prachi Desai), Inspector Raj (Vaquar), and Inspector Amit (Sahil Vaid). As the team begins their investigation, we see them get completely dedicated to the case, brainstorming and analysing the crime scenes.

For a routine inquiry, ACP Verma reaches Pooja’s house, where Justice Choudhary informs him that his friend’s son, Rishabh (Amit Thakkar) has been living with them for some time with his fiancee, Kia (Garima Yagnik). In his routine inquiry, he also finds that Pooja was wearing diamond jewellery, which was missing from her dead body.

Later in the film, we also see ACP Verma visit Kavita in the hospital, who is in a comatose stage. The parts of the investigation that revolve around Kavita, reveal the secret behind the film’s title. This also brings him face to face with MLA Ravi Khanna for the first time, and his investigation clashes with the MLA’s ego, which is also trying to save his conscience from surfacing.

The team’s investigation leads them to a lot of different clues and leads, which also put them up against some local gangsters at a point, raising the tensions around the case. All the while, ACP Verma keeps his doubts about Ravi Khanna intact, knowing that he is hiding some secrets about this murder. What follows is a thrilling and engaging tale of investigations, increasing pressure on the cops, and a lot of secrets getting unfolded.

The parts with the clashes between ACP Verma and MLA Ravi raise the intensity of the film to a high level. Both, Arjun Mathur and Manoj Bajpayee have displayed sheer brilliance in their performances. Not just in the scenes of their ego clashes, but the actors have given applaud-worthy performances throughout the film.

Manoj Bajpayee has always excelled at all his roles, no matter which genre they might be. Especially the characters where he is required to display authority, always become memorable ones. His character in Silence is a similar one, and it is definitely a treat to watch him portray it. When we see him as ACP Verma, showing the character’s frustration, it feels so natural that we forget that he is an actor, and are convinced that he really is a cop, messed up in this high-profile case.

Arjun Mathur has also given an absolutely amazing performance. Each of his expressions conveys multiple things, like his character’s fear, his anger, his ego, all at once, and Arjun Mathur nails them all. Prachi Desai has also given a great performance as Sanjana Bhatia, who is a smart, calm, and composed cop, and who can be strict when required.

Sahil Vaid and Vaquar have also given great performances. They have portrayed the roles of the cops who are light-hearted but strict and civil when needed, very well. Shishir Sharma and Sohaila Kapoor are also fine, perfectly capturing the emotions of parents who are trying to be strong in such trying times. Amit Thakkar, Garima Yagnik, and Barkha Singh’s characters also required them to give a great display of their expressions and dialogue delivery, and they have enacted them effectively.

Besides them, the entire casting suits the premise really well. The cinematography of this film also deserves a lot of praise, as all of the scenes have been shot in a brilliant manner, with perfectly framed shots. The scenes of conversations, investigation, and the scenes which describe an event from the past, have been really well-shot.

The film’s editing is very sharp. Whether it is a transitioning of scenes from present to past, or the scene of the murder and the accident, the editing has depicted them in perfect tones without confusing the viewer. The background music of the film is kept subtle and effectively adds to the grim atmosphere of the film.

Aban Bharucha Deohans has done a truly excellent job of directing the film. Each and every moment of the film succeeds in keeping us engaged and invested in the plot. The film does not let us have a single dull moment. Even when there are no talks about the investigation, we are still just as invested in it. Also, the profound way the plot proceeds and slowly unfolds to reveal the main suspense depicts the brilliance of her direction.

Silence… Can You Hear It is a worth-watching film, with a great plot, unpredictable suspense, intense scenes, and truly great performances.
