Bollywood actor Sunil Grover recently entered the comedy-thriller space with the ZEE5 original series Sunflower. Apart from Grover, Sunflower stars, Ashish Vidyarthi, Mukul Chaddha, Sonal Jha, Ranvir Shorey, Radha Bhatt, Saloni Khanna, and others in significant roles. The story of the show revolves around a murder investigation at the Sunflower society. Lead actor, Sunil Grover recalls working on Sunflower, struggles he faced to find an apartment in Mumbai, and more.
The Sunflower experience
When asked about the various characters in the Sunflower society, Sunil replied by saying, “They’re amazing people. Everyone has some quirk in them, a special element in them. They might look simple, but when you enter their personal lives that’s when you notice these quirks. And that’s entertaining which people will enjoy watching.” Talking about his character Sonu, Sunil said that the character was so well written that his complete focus was on doing justice to the character. He also jokingly added that 99% of the time his suggestions were rejected by the directors of the show.

Apartment hunting in Mumbai
Sunil was asked about his experience of living in Mumbai and finding a good apartment here. That’s when he narrated some incidents from his past. Sunil said that initially, he lived in an apartment in Juhu with his friends, but after a while, since he couldn’t afford it, he decided to shift to Goregaon. That’s when he started facing discrimination due to his profession.
Recalling the obstacles created by various societies, Sunil said that being a single guy and that too an actor wasn’t easily acceptable to the societies. He said they clearly refused to give him a room based on these two reasons. He also added how his latest show Sunflower focuses on these taboos in the Indian societies, and how it shows various struggles faced by individuals to survive in a society. Sunil specifically mentions Ashish Vidyarthi’s character and how he wants to make Sunflower a “perfect Indian culture society” and becomes a hurdle for many people.
Sunil also talked about how he went from having no work at all, to doing voiceovers, and then moving to television, and now films and OTT. He states that when he stopped having self-doubt and started accepting himself and being content with his work, that’s when he started getting more and more work.
