Every year, a tribute montage is played at the event honouring the work and lives of various artists, associated with cinema, who lost their lives in the previous year. This year, this Academy Memorium montage included the name of Indian actor Irrfan Khan, who has created a global name for himself through various international projects. He has also been a part of various Academy award-winning Hollywood films like Life of Pi and Slumdog Millionaire. Names of other Bollywood celebrities like Rishi Kapoor and Sushant Singh Rajput were also mentioned on the official Oscars page in the Memorium section.

Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan was not just a prominent name in Bollywood, but also in international cinema as he worked in a variety of films on the global platform. At the recent Academy Awards 2021, the actor was honoured at the traditional Memorium montage, which consists of a series of late cinema artists who immensely contributed to their craft. Costume designer Bhanu Athaiya was also remembered in the montage with a delightful picture of hers with an Oscar in her hands. She was the first-ever artist from India to win an Oscar in the year 1982, for her work in the film Gandhi.
Bollywood stars like Sushant Singh Rajput and Rishi Kapoor were also mentioned on the official Oscars page. Previously, Filmfare India had honoured all three actors for their contribution to Indian cinema. Late Irrfan Khan was also honoured with the Best Actor title, which was received by his son, Babil Khan.

Irrfan Khan passed away in April, last year, after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was last seen in the Bollywood film Angrezi Medium, which had hit the theatres a few months before his death.
