Devdas, the classic romantic novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay has been at the heart of many romantic movies with different-yet-interesting cinematic versions. And taking an off-beat route, Ken Ghosh’s version of Devdas has a lady protagonist i.e Devika (Asheema Vardan) in the spotlight. Titled Dev DD, the first season of this episodic saga was highly appreciated by critics as well as the viewers.
Exploring the complications of human relationships and modern-age romance, the series gave us some memorable characters including Sanjay Suri’s Anurag, the male version of ‘Chandramukhi.’ The actor will be seen reviving his role in the upcoming second season which ultimately made us recall Suri’s consistency in essaying strong characters on-screen. Set against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan partition, the 2003 film revolves around Puro, a to-be-married woman who gets abducted by Rashid due to the long-running family feud. The film captures her tragic life, dealing with the trauma of isolation after getting abandoned by her own family. Sanjay Suri’s character of Ramchand, Puro’s fiance, sets on a journey to rescue her despite his family’s opposition.
Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the film features Urmila Matondkar and Manoj Bajpayee as the main leads. Sanjay with his minimum screen presence in the film impressed everyone with his expressive act.

If you haven’t watched Onir’s My Brother Nikhil, then you are definitely missing out on one of the finest movies ever made in India. The film revolves around the story of Nikhil, who’s suffering from AIDS and gets abandoned by his family, friends, and colleagues. Only his sister Anamika’s (Juhi Chawla) love keeps him going throughout his journey filled with hardships.
Sanjay Suri played the role of Nikhil and did justice with dignity. The 2005 film turned out to be one of the biggest milestone for Indian Cinema.
The 2020 film Pareeksha – The Final Test directed by Prakash Jha is a heartwarming tale of a father and son relationship. The film explores the nuances and reality of the Indian education system. Sanjay Suri plays an IPS officer and also turns out to be a guiding light for our young protagonist Bulbul.
