We’re sure you know all about the Bollywood celebs and their films but did you know these stars have been making waves even before making their debut in the Bollywood industry.

1. Aishwarya Rai

Aishwarya Rai is known worldwide for her beauty. One of the teachers teaching photography at Aishwarya’s college encouraged her to take a turn in front of the camera and soon enough without any social media presence, her photos went viral. Her photos caught the attention of filmmakers in advertising and known photographers. Soon enough, Rai’s face soon became known across India, reaching an apex with her appearance at the end of a 1993 Pepsi commercial with Aamir Khan. Upon encouragement from her friends, Aishwarya joined the Miss India pageant in the early 90s but lost to Sushmita Sen. However, Aishwarya Rai went on to win Miss World in 1994. After her win, she was offered her first debut film, ‘Iruvar’ in 1997.

2. Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone was born to the famous Prakash Padukone who is a retired badminton player of international repute, and Ujjala Padukone who is a travel agent. While she was in high school, she played badminton at the state level. She continued to pursue a career in badminton throughout her school years and played the sport in national-level championships. She also played baseball in a few state-level tournaments. When she was in college, Padukone decided to pursue a career in modeling. Over the years, she modeled for various Indian brands such as Liril, Dabur Lal powder, Close-Up toothpaste, and Limca. At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards, she was awarded the title “Model of the Year”. She was also chosen as the brand ambassador of Kingfisher Airlines and later Levi Strauss and Tissot SA. Deepika made her debut in 2006 with ‘Aishwarya’, a Kannada film.

3. Disha Patani

Disha Patani has made a name for herself in the Bollywood industry and has been a part of many successful films. She does not belong to a ‘filmy’ background; her father is an ACP and her sister is in Indian Armed Forces. As a kid, she aspired to become a Pilot in Air Force. She was studying in college when she started getting offers for modeling. She dropped out in her second year and went on to participate in 2013 Femina Miss India Indore and was declared the first runner-up. After being swamped with multiple modeling offers, Disha started to travel for shoots and fashion shows. She did various TV advertisements. In 2006, she debuted in ‘Loafer’ which was not much of a success. She got recognition after her Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk ad for her adorable act in 2015 and she was signed to play the love interest of late Sushant Singh Rajput in, ‘M.S. Dhoni: The untold story”.

4. John Abraham

John Abraham is a well-known actor in Bollywood. Before making his way into the industry, he was a well-known face in the modeling field. John started his modeling career by appearing in a music video of Punjabi singer Jazzy B. In the year 1999, he won the Gladrags Manhunt Contest and went to the Philippines for Manhunt International where he won second place. He was then signed by Carrie Models in Singapore. John also modeled in Hong Kong, London, and New York City. He did some commercial ads and some music videos. He joined Kishore Namit Kapoor’s acting laboratory to improve his acting skills and made his debut in 2002 with the film ‘Jism’.

5. Milind Soman

Milind Soman is a supermodel and an actor. As a kid, he aspired to become a swimmer and even represented Maharashtra in National Swimming Championship. He decided to give modelling a chance with ‘Graviera suitings’ but was rejected because he was considered too young to be wearing a suit. His modeling breakthrough came with ‘Thackersey Fabrics’ in 1989. Milind was offered a role in ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander and he did a few scenes but left the film as he was swamped with modeling offers. In 1995, Soman got featured in a music video, ‘Made in India’. After being featured in various music videos, and TV series, he made his debut in Bollywood.
