Cinema halls in Kerala reopened after remaining shut for months due to the COVID-19 induced lockdown. Tamil movie ‘Master’ starring superstar Vijay will be the first movie to be released. The decision comes after the state government decided to address the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce’s main demands and concerns.

Earlier on Monday, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan had announced that the government has decided to waive entertainment tax for cinemas from January to March 2021. This comes after the government’s decision to charge only 50 per cent of the electricity charges from theatres during the lockdown period to help the film industry.
Mollywood celebrities were all praises for the government, following the announcement of its decisions. Most stars thanked CM Vijayan for taking up the entertainment industry’s concerns and resolving it with effectiveness. Mollywood’s two big stars were among the firsts to be vocal as Mohanlal wrote “Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala Shri Pinarayi Vijayan announces concessions to energize Malayalam cinema,” in his tweet thanking the government. Meanwhile, Mammootty appreciated the CM for coming forward to revive the Malayalam film industry.

Dulquer Salmaan voiced his gratitude with an Instagram post. “Lots of respect going out to our Honorable Chief Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan for his efforts to breathe life back into the struggling Malayalam film industry. The COVID19 pandemic hasn’t been easy on anyone and I sincerely hope his efforts will help pull everyone in the industry back on their feet,” Dulquer Salmaan wrote under his post.

Mohanlal actress Manju Warrier took it to Facebook to welcome the decision while actor Prithviraj, who is also a producer, simply wrote “Thank you” in his post. Filmmakers are keenly looking at the theatres and the Vijay starrer Master’s success to see if the decision to open the theatres now becomes a success. Many Malayalam movies that had their initial release dates in 2020, are looking forward to 2021 to release.
