Is The Congress Going Through An Existential Crisis?
MoviesCongress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi blamed Owaisi and AIMIM’s entry in Seemanchal for the party’s poor performance in BIhar elections
After its loss in the Bihar legislative polls and poor performance in the by polls in Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh, how will Congress fill its leadership vacuum and device a better strategy for the future?
Following the loss of the Indian National Congress (INC) in the Bihar legislative polls, party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi spoke to a channel exclusively on the way ahead. Revealing his theory of why the Congress lost in Bihar, the politician said that the 26 seats allotted to the party were from constituencies where neither the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), nor the Congress had won in 30 years. On being asked if the dynasty led party is facing an existential crisis, Singhvi dismissed the tag while agreeing that the team needs introspection to perform better in the future.
Calling the Mahagathbandhan association with the Rashrtiya Janata Dal (RJD) an extremely powerful one, he said that the alliance worked in unity and was just short of winning the polls. He further cited that the Congress sacrificed 3 sitting MLAs and another 13 seats which were fought in the last elections. Clarifying that he is not complaining about the seat-distribution, he however attributed his party’s performance to the same.
The lawyer-politician blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for playing its Seemanchal-Owaisi card in the phase three voting. Pointing out that the INC did well in the first two legs, he stated that the party got only 29 of the 50 seats due to Asaduddin Owaisi led AIMIM in the last chapter, leading to a reverse-polarization in the Muslim voters.
Singhvi also cried foul on the possibility of an on-ground election fraud, stating that many of their candidates lost after almost winning their constituencies.
Disagreeing that the Congress is suffering from a leadership vacuum and directionless strategy, the party loyalist said that Bihar was not a poor performance by any standards and the party will continue to work better for future endeavours.
