The Zindagi TV show Umm-E-Haniya, now on ZEE5, depicts the story of Romi, a strong-willed and dedicated young woman. Her unbroken spirit and determination to raise Haniya, whom she found abandoned amidst roadside garbage, as her own is remarkable. Here are six such women and real-life role models with similar strong personalities such as Mary Kom and Malala Yousafzai, who continue to inspire us endlessly!

1. Mary Kom

Mary Kom is a name that everyone on this planet is probably familiar with. Back in 2014, Mary became the first-ever Indian female boxer to win a gold medal at the Asian Games. She is also the first Indian female boxer who was awarded the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. Hailing from a poor family of Manipur, India, the boxer has proven herself time and again at the sport and inspired countless women who look up to her.

2. Arunima Sinha

A national-level volleyball and football player, Arunima Sinha is the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest along with six other mountain peaks of the world. It is truly moving to witness individuals who push themselves to always achieve bigger as Arunima does. She was honoured with the Padma Shri award by the Indian government in 2015!

3. Malala Yousafzai

A Pakistani activist, Malala Yousafzai has been a revolutionary figure for many. She became the youngest-ever recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded to her in 2014. Her extraordinary work as a human rights advocate and dedicated efforts for women’s literacy has bagged her several awards and accolades over the years.

4. Pratibha Patil

It is a general observation how many departments in distinct fields of profession always have a higher number of appointed men. Receiving about two-thirds of the total votes, Pratibha Patil became the first female president of India on July 25, 2007. It was a historic moment for the nation and young females who are in need of such inspiration.

5. Jennifer Hosten

The first-ever black woman to win the Miss World title was Jennifer Hosten. It is no secret how oppressive the world has been towards women of colour for decades. However, at the age of 23, Jennifer Hosten managed to motivate all such women to be fearlessly themselves and chase their dreams. Bagging the crown back in 1970, she also became the first woman from her country to do so.

Another determined and willful human rights activist is Nadia Murad. Women like Nadia, who was captured by ISIS, hold a place of absolute courage in our hearts that inspire us to always be braver and compassionate to others.
