The Peaky Blinders fame actor Cillian Murphy has bagged the title in the next movie venture of the famous director Christopher Nolan, titled ‘Oppenheimer’.  Murphy will be starring as the American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, also known as ‘father of the atomic bomb’ due to his efficient role in running the Los Alamos Laboratory as well as due to his involvement in the Manhattan Project. The actor-director duo have collaborated on various successful projects in the past like ‘Batman Begins’, ‘Inception’ and ‘Dunkirk’.

This $100 million film will be financed and distributed by Universal Pictures that gained the rights of this film in a bidding war that included Paramount, Sony, and Warner Bros. The Warner Bros.  studios has released practically every Nolan film, but the relationship  between the director and the director soured after Nolan chastised Warner Bros. for releasing their whole 2021 slate simultaneously in theatres and on HBO Max as a COVID concession. According to the official summary of the Universal Studio, the film is an “epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it”. The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. The movie will now be released on July 21, 2023.

The Director of photography for this film will be Hoyte Van Hoytema, who had earlier collaborated with Nolan on his previous ventures like “Tenet,” “Dunkirk” and  “Interstellar”, along with editor Jennifer Lame  who has previously worked with the director in  “Tenet”.  The  Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson (“Tenet”) will also return to work with Nolan in this new project.

Christopher Nolan is also the writer of the film along with producing it with Emma Thomas, Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven. According to Donna Langley, Chairman of the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group “Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas’ films have shattered the limits of what cinematic storytelling can achieve”. Also adding to the statement that “We are thrilled to be working alongside them on this exceptional and extraordinary project and are grateful for their shared passion and commitment to the theatrical experience.”

With such a glorious past the expectations of the audience is again high from the whole team.
