A Tribute To Actor ‘Ravi Patwardhan’: Take A Look At His Journey From MLA Bano To Agga Bai Sasubai’s Ajoba

Marathi actor Ravi Patwardhan passed away this weekend in a private hospital in Thane. He was 84 and took his last breath after facing a heart attack. The veteran star was popularly known for his work in Hindi and Marathi cinema as well as theatre. Ravi Patwardhan began his acting career in the late 1970s. As fans of Ravi are pouring the actor’s loss, here’s a quick glimpse of Ravi Patwardhan’s acting journey, from plays to movies to his last television serial, Agga Bai Sasubai.

Ravi Patwardhan’s acting jounrey

Ravi Patwardhan made his acting debut with Simhasan, released in 1979. Helmed  by Jabbar Patel, the crime drama also featured popular Marathi actors, Mohan Agashe, Suresh Bhagwat, Datta Bhatt and many others. Later, in 1982, Ravi Patwardhan churned out one of superhit Marathi films, Umbartha. This drama flick was also directed by Jabbar Patel. Ravi’s powerful voice in the lustful politician, MLA Bane’s role was considered as one of his top roles. It also featured Smita Patil, Girish Karnad, Shrikant Moghe and many others. Ravi Patwardhan played a variety of roles across numerous films, TV shows and plays.

Ravi Patwardhan has also worked in Hindi films. One of his notable Hindi film roles came in Tezab. He played a public prosecutor in the film. He also made appearances in films like Jhanjaar, Bandhan, Yeshwant, 3.0 Megapixel, Jhansi Ki Rani Laxmibai, Most Wanted, London Cha Jawai, Yugpurush: A Man Who Comes Just Once in a Way and many others. Apart from big-screens, Ravi Pathwardhan has also acted in stage shows and theatre. In mid-80s, the actor’s portrayal in popular Marathi agriculture show Aamchi Maati Aamchi Maansa on Door Darshan was highly appreciated.

In 2015, Ravi Patwardhan did his last film, Mahanayak- Vastant Tu. Later after four years of hiatus, the actor was seen in playing the role of Aajoba in ZEE Marathi TV show Agga Bai Sasubai. The daily soap also stars Tejashree Pradhan, Nivedita Saraf, Girish Oak in the lead roles. On Agga Bai Sasubai, Ravi Patwardhan played a supporting role as Asawari’s father in law and Shubhra and Soham’s grandfather.
