He made his acting debut with the Television show, Bharat Ek Khoj, which aired in the Doordarshan era and was a major source of entertainment for most people in the country.

Irrfan Khan was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 but he continued with his work until his last days. On 29^th April 2020, the actor passed away at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai while he was undergoing treatment for colon infection.
