
Times Square Shooting Leaves Three, Including A 4-Year-Old Child, Injured

On Saturday, shooting in New York’s Time Square left three people injured which includes a four-year-old girl and two women. As reported by the police, the gun violence took place just before 5:00 pm at the intersection of 7th Avenue and 44th Street. Amid the gunfire, a four-year-old child was shot in the leg and a 46-year-old woman was hit in her foot. Also, the third victim, a 23-year-old tourist was shot in the leg.
In a media interaction, The New York Police Department stated that the victims were hospitalized in Manhattan and their lives were out of danger. As per the investigation, the three bystanders, unknown to each other, stumbled into an argument between three to four men, among which at least one fired the gun. As of now, no arrests have been made. HTimeowever, police have appealed for witnesses and have also released footage for a wanted man.
Reportedly, the crime level has surged in Times Square, one of New York’s busiest tourist spots. According to Times Square Alliance, the area has reported 25 violent crimes in the first quarter of 2021. If compared to the same period time of last year, the count has increased by eight.
Earlier, in March, an elder Asian woman was assaulted and video of the same became the talk of the city. After a thorough investigation, a man with a criminal history was charged and arrested. As per data, crime rates have severely increased after the protests against police violence.
Meanwhile, the reopening of businesses has begun in New York. Mayor, Bill de Blasio, recently announced a campaign to revive tourism from June.
