Vivek Oberoi is the son of Suresh Oberoi, a veteran Bollywood character actor, and Yashodhara Oberoi. At a workshop in London, he was spotted by the director of New York University who took Vivek to New York, where he completed his master’s degree in film acting. Vivek also used to work as a scriptwriter in India.
Vivek Oberoi made his debut in Bollywood with Ram Gopal Varma’s film ‘Company’ in 2002. He revealed that it was difficult to convince the filmmaker that he could play the role of a small-time goon. To get the role, he decided to stay in a slum for 15 days. He slept in a hut on the floor with mice all around, had to bathe with no plumbing service available, and observed how they lived their everyday lives. After his stay for 15 days, he again went to meet the filmmaker and convinced him to give him a chance.
The actor recently recalled telling his father that he would drop the surname and struggle in the film industry. In an interview, Vivek said that he was 22-23 when he went up to his father and said that he didn’t want his father to produce films for him. He recalled that his father was taken aback.
His father Suresh Oberoi asked him if he had lost his mind! But Vivek explained to him that since his father had made it to the industry on his own, he would like to follow the same. He did not want any help from his father.
When his father told him that it was not easy to struggle, Vivek accepted that challenge and said he was ready for it.,very difficult. He even went to the extent of telling his father that he would drop his father’s name from his name.
Vivek struggled a lot and faced rejections for at least two years after his first movie. But he managed to grow and many offers came his way.
